Torres... Splitter outside, 1-1. GB 4-5 inches below the inside corner, lays off it in time, 2-1. FB well outside and a bit high, 3-1 FB near the top of the zone outside of middle, lined hard to deep left, carries into the 1st or 2nd row, solo HR for Torrer!!. Yanks strike first, take a 1-0 lead!  |

Somebody out to the mound trying to make sure Parker's ready for the AB.

Takes a rarely used curve well low, 1-0
Takes a splitter right down the middle, 1-1. Doesn't seem to have much drop, more for arm-action change of pace.
Splitter drops low inside middle, 2-1
Arggg.
FB above the waist near the corner inside, but he tips it foul. 2-2.
Curve below middle, bounced to 3rd, Tena goes to Vargas for the force, close play, but even if Verdugo was safe, he's out anyway, because for reasons known only to him, he kept running through the bag into short left center. Maybe he knew he was out, and was just heading for his normal position.
Anyway...
Yanks load the bases, come up empty.
Bottom 2, 1-0 Yanks.
25 pitches in the 2nd for Parker, 43 through 2.
Ex-Yankee farmhand Chaparro leads off, Ruiz and Yepez will follow for the Nats in the 2nd.

So "not done" with Gleyber... I was always a huge Gleyber supporter. Still am but just think his time is done. Hoping it ends with a ring. Looks like you've also changed your opinion re Stanton...at least for now. |

Chapparro...
Takes a big breaking slider above the knees, down the middle, 0-1
FB above the inside corner, fouled back, 0-2
Opens up, change misses well outside, 1-2
Cutter inside near the top, pulled hard but well foul down the line in left.
FB misses 4 inches outside or so, Chaparro starts but checks well in time, 2-2
Change on the corner away, below the waist, he waits on it, drives it to the gap in right center, short hops the wall, a leadoff double for Chaparro.

Ruiz takes a FB well high, ball 1.
Nestor having trouble with pitchcom, gets another.
FB 6-7 inches inside waist high, taken, 2-0
Cutter misses just high in the middle, gets a favorable call. 0% on Gameday, an inch high or so, 2-1.
FB inside corner above the waist, hit to deep left, Verdugo gets the route races back, and makes a catch then bangs hard into the wall, goes down in pain, 1 down, but Boone and the trainer out to check Verdugo out. Outstanding catch. Hope he's OK>

Looked like his right knee hit the padding first. He was favoring the right leg, hobbling on it before he went down.
Yanks are letting him stay in the game for now. Something to watch later on if it stiffens up.

Yepez...
Gets a FB in the zone low/away, fouls it, 0-1
Cutter above the outer 3rd, Yepez late and under, pops it to short right, Soto has to come a long way, but gets there, 2 down.
