Site isn't updated but playoff one should go down with the Red Sox loss Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Yes, the Magic Number for making the playoffs is now down to...  ...but Tigers have caught the Sox, so the Yanks have to clinch against both teams now, and the Rays and Mariners are just one loss behind the two of them, so any of them could become the team the Yanks have to lock out to make the post-season. Oh, I see now you beat me in, anthony. Ah, well. |

Kansas City has lost 7 consecutive games but they still have a 4.5 game lead for the final wild card spot over Boston and Detroit. The Tigers are the only wild card contender that has a winning record over their last 10 games and that includes the Yankees.

Division still 23. Playoffs Actually, the O's are now in first, so technically, they have the Magic Number for the division. It's 22, one less than the Yankees' number. Now, you can define a Magic Number for any team that isn't eliminated, either directly or indirectly. For example, the 3rd place Sox Magic Number is 36, meaning that if their wins + Yankee losses and their wins + Orioles losses the rest of the way adds up to 36, then they clinch the AL East. That means that if the Sox win their last 23 games and the Yanks and O's both lose 13 of their remaining games, the Sox win the East. Or any combination with fewer Sox wins and more Yankees and Orioles losses. |
