Something I don't understand on the link in the top post how could Cleveland and Baltimore have a lower magic number for the 2 seed than the Yankees have for the one seed?
I'm guessing it has something to do with Baltimore having the tiebreaker right now and the loser of the AL east can't have the 2 seed.

Division: Playoffs: (Note the Yankees and Guardians are tied for the number one seed, but the Yankees own the tiebreaker. The magic number for the number one seed is 16.)

#1 seed also 14 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I was going to say that the magic number for the playoffs is 6, not 5, and then I remembered that the Tigers have the Wild Card runner-up spot, and that ties for the final Wild Card are now broken first by head-to-head record and the Yanks beat the Tigers for the season's series, 4-2, winning the tie-breaker. So the Yanks just need to tie the Tigers, and they only need five more wins to get to 90 wins, which is the Tigers' max if they win every game left on their schedule.

Just to make sure everyone knows, today's loss by the Tigers didn't reduce the Yanks' magic number for at least a Wild Card from 4 to 3, because the Mariners won and are now tied with Tigers, even-steven at 76-73. The Yanks clinched the season's series over Detroit, but not Seattle. The Yanks are 2-2 vs. the M's, and have 3 big games next weekend at T-Mobile Park. So the magic number is still 4 for the playoffs.

Still waiting on Seattle result but I believe right now it's
#1 seed 11 Division 10 Playoffs 3
Seattle up 4-0 on Texas in the 7th. Even if Seattle blew that lead I dunno if anything would change since Detroit won.

The Yankees went 5-3 this and still shaved NINE games off their magic number for the division. This division could be over as soon as next week depending what happens, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. The magic numbers are :
