Lefties hit Gore, but DJ gets the start over Rice. Wells starting. The good news is that Anthony Rizzo had a good game in Somerset on Tuesday hitting a pair of home runs.

Boone explains his decision to start DJ. How about Oswaldo at first base?!

Playing the Name Game: Gore is the only player with first name MacKenzie in The other is a 19th-century outfielder who played 14 seasons, 13 in the NL and one in the Players' League: George Gore. I'd never heard of him before, but he had a lifetime BAVG over .300, and scored over 1300 runs and got over 1600 hits, winning league titles with the Giants in 1888 and 1889. George is the Gore-iest major league in history at just under 40 bWAR (if bWAR from 130-140 mean anything. I know two things about George Gore from a book I had as a kid called "Big Time Baseball." One is that his nickname was Piano Legs and two is that he holds the all-time National League record for errors by an outfielder. I remember that because there was a cartoon drawing of him with piano legs and a ball hitting him on the head while little birds flew around him. In looking him up I see that his apparent preference for having a good time over playing baseball led to clashes with his manager Cap Anson, who was not noted for being light-hearted. Still he won a batting title and lasted 14 seasons, so he couldn't have been completely lackadaisical.

Rice definitely needs a little more seasoning at AAA and quite frankly, I think he's more in our trade plans than long-term. I'm not sure what the organization doesn't see in TJ Rumfield for a first-baseman going forward. He doesn't have a ton of power, but all the rest of his offensive stats are good and he plays gold glove defense. Unfortunately, I don't see the Yankees clearing a 40 man spot for him in the offseason and he'll likely be lost.

Gore is a pitcher that could cause a little bit of trouble for a couple of Yankees. His speed for a LHP is high but the rest of his pitches are so-so. The one reason I don't think Rice would have been a good fit, despite a decent lefty split for the pitcher, is that Gore's slider is one that induces outs outside of the zone. I don't think Rice has good enough discipline to lay off of it. For that matter, I think Stanton could have trouble with Gore as well. If he uses the curve or sweeper to Stanton or Judge, it'd be a complete gift.

Gleyber lays off a couple of close pitches to get the count to 3-0. He takes a strike and then grounds to third. Gleyber gets a gift and reward for not chasing those pitcher's pitches as the E-5 on the throw gives Gleyber first and second.

Gleyber works the count, hits the ball hard and gets on base after an error.

Soto moves the runner, setting up Judge for the sac fly.

Gore get Judge to K on the very slider I was concerned about Stanton not being able to handle.

It's amazing how so many of today's hitters swing through so many mediocre pitchers.

Stanton pops to center and our big bats don't make the Senators pay for the early miscue. Hopefully good Rodon is here tonight because Gore's stuff looks decent.

Rodon reminds me a lot of AJ Burnout. He's got two outstanding pitches and when he can't control them, he stinks.

And a second pitch HR for Dylan Crews. 1-0 Senators. Rodon's head is probably already off kilter.
