Rodon finally gets an out.

I don't see how what Rodon did deceived the runners, which is supposed to be the key to what constitutes a balk.

Rodon seems to have found his GPS because he's found the strike zone. His slider still isn't working so well. It's either too far in the zone or planted in the dirt. Tena goes from 1-2 to 3-2 and then goes to a back door slider on the inside corner for a K.

I don't see how what Rodon did deceived the runners, which is supposed to be the key to what constitutes a balk. The OBR balk rule says nothing about deceiving runners. There is a definition of how a pitcher can throw a pitch. If he deviates from that, it's a balk.

Could have been worse but the balk cost Rodon the second run.

Rodon gets a swinging K which goes 2-3 as Wells had to retrieve the ball. Honestly, I'll put that in my scorebook as w.w., like Scooter used to do, because I completely missed the pitch.

Rodon resets a bit. Dylan Crews (LSU boy) will hit home runs against any pitcher in MLB - he's got that kind of talent.

Oh well. The Yanks need to bring their hitting bats to the game. They need to score runs.

Wells grounds a fastball from Gore weakly to first. It seems Gore has brought his better stuff to the game tonight; and we shouldn't be surprised since he invented the Internet.

I don't see how what Rodon did deceived the runners, which is supposed to be the key to what constitutes a balk. "Let's go now to Pipps who is with Bob Davidson to explain his favorite call."

Volpe takes a curve for a strike, a fastball in, a curve in, swings through a fastball in the zone up and away, and on the 2-2 gets a fastball more or less down broadway and grounds it to short. 2 down.

There is a definition of how a pitcher can throw a pitch. If he deviates from that, it's a balk. Well then mlb.com has it wrong, because it says right up front that a balk is a move by the pitcher that in the judgment of the umpire deceives the runner. I'm not saying you're incorrect, I'm just surprised that mlb.com doesn't know the rule.

Chisolm takes a first pitch fastball in the zone straight out to the deepest part of Nationals Park. It's a solo HR and the Yankees are on the board!

Volpe does that a lot. Gets ahead of the count and then swings wildly at a pitch out of the strike zone. He needs a good hitting coach, like Don Mattingly.
