Sox got 3 in the 10th, the Tigers got one back but that was it, 7-5, Sox win in 10 innings. Padres lead the Rays 10-4, bottom 8th at the MiseryDome™/ Twins lead the Jays 2-0, bottom 6 in Minnesota. Rockies lead the O's (!), 2-1, top 4 at Coors. I don't expect that to last, but as the saying goes, if an elephant flies, you can't blame him much for not staying in the air very long.
If all those scores hold, (yeah, right), Yanks will lead the O's by 2 1/2, the Sox by 9, the Rays by 12 1/2 and the Jays by 14.

Walkr goes after a sinker on the corner inside, lines it toward the left-center gap, but Verdugo gets the read and route, runs it down without no muss, no fuss, game over! Yanks win 6-3, getting back to 23 over .500 at 79-56, and cut their magic number for making the playoffs to: Tanaka Son! One of our favorites on the old board!

One other score of note. Bottom 7 in Houston, Astros lead 3-0, but Framber Valdez has a no-hitter through 7 vs. the Royals. 7 K's, 3 BB and 98 pitches, so making it through 9 at that pitch count rate is iffy. Looking at 125-130 pitches even if things go well.

so if we don't bring up Dominguez tomorrow, we can't have him for the post season? Dominguez is on the 40 man roster. He would be eligible for the post season regardless.

I know reporters have a job to do, but Boone isn't going to answer that question right now, he doesn't have to.

Valdez is throwing a no hitter for Houston against KC, but it appears he's getting pulled after 7.

Stars of the game: HM to Soto, doubling in the tying run and scoring the go-ahead run on Wells' HR in the 3rd, right after the Cards took the lead, and another hit. Holmes for overcoming the Volpe error, getting a DP ball and flinout to end it for his 29th save.
3rd star of the Game: Torres for working a long walk, setting up Soto's RBI double in the 3rd, getting the Yanks out of the 8th with an outstanding diving stop to his left and throwing from a knee to get Donovan, and getting an off-balance bloop single to center before Wells' 2nd HR, 2 runs, 2 rallies started and a great defensive play is good enough for the bronze, I think.
2nd star of the game: Marcus Stroman, struggled in the 2nd and 3rd, held it together, used his smarts to baffle the Cards for 4 more innings, his 4th solid start in a row, striking out 5 without walking a batter, getting his record on the season to 10-6 and lowering his ERA to 3.81. Some night's that enough for the gold, but he settles for the silver, because of...
1st star of the game: Wells. two-run HR in the 3rd, getting the lead right back for the Yanks; 2-run HR in the 8th, getting Holmes plenty of breathing room...Can you imagine Holmes trying to overcome that Volpe error working with just a 1-run safety net? Me, neither. Plus, handling and receiving for Stroman's outstanding game. That's the gold medal winner for this game.

Game 2 tomorrow is the usual Saturday afternoon start at 1:07 pm on YES. Veteran righty Kyle Gibson (7-6, 4.54 ERA) starts for St. Louis, he's alternated good start with bad ones for the last month. Will Warren (0-2, 968 ERA, oh, excuse me, 9.68 ERA) tries again to show he's a major league starter. He got hit hard again by the Rockies last time out, he's had two tolerable starts and two horrendous starts in his 4 games for the Yanks.
OK, game preview done, I go to check notifications. Probably have a lot to catch up on...

I'm pretty sure they're not calling him up. Probably will add Berti when ready. But then, I'm a pessimist about Yankee front office decisiions. They could bring up Berti and Dominquez and option Grisham, who has options. But that probably won't happen. Yeah, they could. But I don't think they will.

Ok, notifications checked, I'm going to get going tonight. See you guys tomorrow afternoon for the middle game. Hope they have their hitting shoes on for Gibson, who's a mixed bag. Never know if he'll shut you down or if you knock him out. Good night to all. Bye for now.
