Rats. I’m not at home but was watching on the dots. What was Oswaldo doing?? 😡 He stepped out to reset after the count went to 3-2. Helsley was milling around behind the mound, and Cabrera didn't realize the clock was ticking on him to get back in the box, because Helsey was nowhere near the rubber. The umpire's buzzer went off, and that was a batter clock violation, strike 3. The really annoying thing was that OCab still had his timeout, and could've taken it, but he wasn't aware of what was happening. A rough lesson to learn in that spot, I hope he'll remember it.

Just gonna pile on because I think his pitching has poisoned an already shaky bullpen - Leiter's sixth inning ended up costing the game. I know there was a fielding goof, but he bled the base runners, as usual. Stop pitching him, he stinks. He has stunk for most of his career. And he will continue to stink. Stop the insanity. If I read the stats correctly, Leiter has had one appearance where he didn't allow a baserunner and only two without a hit. Of course, he'd gone 7 appearances with the Cubs not allowing a baserunner before he was traded. Too bad we couldn't complete the comeback today. At least they showed some spunk at the end.

Just missed the almost comeback from Big G. Matt Blake is doing one heck of a job developing Wil Warren.

Ok, game 3 tomorrow and the Yanks have a professional starter ready to pitch this one.
Cards send out another veteran righty, Miles Mikolas, a junkballing control specialist, best described as a poor man's Zack Eflin. Leads the NL in fewest walks per 9 innings, but is 8-10 with a 5.23 ERA. Mikolas had a great start against the Brewers 2 starts ago, 6 scorless, 2-hit innings for a no-decision, but has given up 18 earned runs in 19 1/3 innings in his last start and the 3 before the good one, with 29 hits allowed. Nestor Cortes (8-10, 3.89 ERA) goes for the Yanks; he's looking for his 4th straight great start and 4th straight win, just one earned run allowed over 20 2/3 innings in his last 3 starts.
The other East games today have not yet started: Padres and Rays in the ^&*%^*Dome™ in about 10 minutes from now. Red Sox and Tigers at Comerica at 6:10 pm. Jays and Twins in Minnesota at 7:10 pm. O's and Rockies at Coors at 8:10 pm.
Ok, game preview done, I'm going to catch up with notifications.

He was pitching very poorly in AAA, but had a great spring training and had pitched very well the last 4 starts in AAA before they called him up the first time. He has stunk in every start in the majors. This is his 6 start. Does not matter what he may have done in Scranton. He can;t pitch at this level. Catch-22, bruner. If they think he's done all he can at AAA, he has to pitch in the majors to gain command at this level. The best way is to put him in as the long-reliever and gain command that way, as Earl weaver used to do with his promising pitching prospect to finish their development. The Yanks can't do that because 1) their starers including Cole because of the way he's being handled off the injury don't get deep into game often enough, so you can't devote one of the 8 relief slots to a guy who pitches 2-3 innings every 3-4 days, and 2) They have no other remotely capable 5th starter until Schmidt or Gil come of the IL, and the same bullpwn shorts prevent them from going openers, Rays-style. So they have to have him struggle in rotation, and he's pitching so poorly, they keep skipping over him, a day or two, making his command problems worse, his performance worse, and making them skip over him more, giving too much rest, making his command worse, and so on.

Pitching coach goes out to talk to Helsley. Nothing to talk about...Judge HAS to be walked here. Even in a bit of a slump, and with Wells a lefty on deck, and with Judge 0-2 with a K vs. Helsley? Yeah, I suppose they do have to walk Judge until Wells establishes his rep in key spots.

They at least made things interesting today but this a lousy record for such a veteran team.

That has to be Warrens last start this season barring an injury or Junk start if the Yankees have clinched the AL

Rizzo getting activated. Rice will probably get sent down, so the Yanks will still be able to bring up two players.

Warren is getting sent down with Rice, so two pitchers can be added to the roster tomorrow.
