It is amazing we lead the majors in runs scored with a team that hits this poorly. I guess new baseball. I think this is my first comment on a game thread this year lol given that I started them for decades  Lot of bad and mediocre teams throughout baseball. We just have the fortune of having two elite hitters stacked in the front of our lineup. If they continue to slump, we're gonna tumble again. |

Getting shut down by the retread Gibson. Think back over the decades chi. Is that rare for us? I remember games against pitchers with near 7 era's where we could not buy a hit. Baseball is a strange game. But also I think we are not at our best against bad teams/players. The Yankees haven't been good against left handed pitching but there's no reason they shouldn't be able to handle Gibson. |

All that is part of command, 636. Command ball/strikes is too many walks. Command in the zone leads to extra base hits and home runs. Agree about command. But were you say it’s because of the time between starts, I would say he doesn’t have the command to be a MLB pitcher. And I agree his command isn't good enough yet. But the long rest between starts is almost certainly making that problem worse. And that's a problem for the team, because this is the rolls they need him for. Meanwhile, Leiter has major league command and is stinking out the joint again, back to back double for a run, and then a wild pitch, E-2 trying to throw out Herrera going to 3rd lead to another, 6-1 Cards. Walker K's for the 2nd out. |

Yet another history making moment developing in the Bronx (and as with many historical moments this season, it's not a good one for the Yankees), as a bad St. Louis Cardinals team is about to win its first game ever at the current Yankee Stadium! Yanks just can't seem to dominate the teams they're supposed to beat.
