Semien takes a sinker on the corner inside, as Tavares takes 2nd on defensive indifference. Chases a sinker diving low. Sinker at the knees, outer half, fouled Sinker dives inside, taken, 1-2 Sinker bounced, gets away from Wells, but the runners hold down by 4 as it didn't get far enough away. Holmes looks in, steps off. Sinker up and in, fouled back I'm glad the sinker is really diving, Coney, better it should miss a bat every now and then, no? Slider low, outer half, and fouled.

Sinker 4-5 inches OUTSIDE near the top, lines it up the middle anyway, Torres dives to his right to backhand on the short hop, gets up, throws in a hurry, it's low, but Rizzo scoops it, no muss, no fuss. Holmes with another digitalis special to close it out, game over, Yanks win, 8-4.
Is there anyone in this pen who can get three outs without causing medical emergencies all over Yankeeland? Seriously.

wow great play by torres to save the game as holmes sorta closes it out. always finds a way to make it more interesting than it needs to be. give gleyber a star.

I am sure Boone would have had a heart attack if Seager would have made it up to bat. lol

Taveras takes a sinker well outside, ball 1 Swings over a sinker diving low, outer 3rd, 1-1 Slider back up well outside, 2-1 Sinker misses outside, 3-1 Sinker misses way low, ball 4 It wasn't a save situation when Holmes came in, but it is one now as the tying run is on deck. Is it really a "save" if you create the save situation when none previously existed? I can see it if someone else has to come in, but the guy who created it?

I was commenting that it wasn't a save situation when Holmes entered, but if Boone went to someone else, that pitcher would be eligible for a save.

Fortunately, it was sufficiently Holmes-proofed. I don't know how you continue to trust that guy with a 1 or 2-run lead. He's a blown save waiting to happen every time out. I don't expect any changes this season, but one of this winter's top priorities has to be finding a replacement for that bum. The rest of these gas cans are obviously an issue, too; but Holmes is the guy in the highest-leverage position and he's terrible at it.

I was kinda thinking that's what you meant, but wasn't sure.

Well, the Yanks win and keep pace with the O's, get back to 22 games over .500 and become the 2nd AL team to get to 80 wins (the O's became the first team to 80 when they crushed the White Sox this afternoon). They remain 1/2 game up on Baltimore, gain 1/2 game on the idle Blue Jays, and a full game on the Rays and Red Sox, who lost tonight. Yanks lead the Sox by 10 games, the Rays by 12 1/2 and the Jays by 13 1/2. The Sox, Mariners and Tigers all lost, so no one jumped over Boston into the 1st runner up for a Wild Card so the Yanks magic number for clinching a playoff spot drops to...
