Game 2 of the series is tomorrow afternoon, also at 2:20 pm on YES.
Clarke Schmidt gets his turn coming off a much longer IL stay to make his first start in the majors since late May. He was 5-3 on the season with a 2.83 ERA before the injury. Javier Assad starts for the Cubs. He's 7-4 on the year with a 3.21 ERA, and has pitched 3 solid games in a row: 2-1 with an ERA of 3.38, 14 K's and 4 BB in 18 2/3 innings.

Might be Gil's last inning, too, coming off his IL stretch. Ugh, the bullpen in a close game.  Got it done today, Weaver with some help by HP ump Baker. How long it lasts...I don't know. |

kudos to gleyber for turning his season around. since being installed as the leadoff hitter, batting .307 w an OBP of .411. his fielding has also been quite good.

10 HRs is a lot for a reliever, even in 73 innings. But his WHIP this season puts Holmes' WHIP to shame. Plus, he has 21 Holds. |

The throw was most impressive; made from the SS position while moving to his right. You may recall questions re his arm strength. BTW...word is that SF Giants are very interested in signing him. |

Just want to mention that the play Torres made is harder than Torres made it look. He made a very similar play a few games ago. The throw was most impressive; made from the SS position while moving to his right. You may recall questions re his arm strength. BTW...word is that SF Giants are very interested in signing him. Yep, Torres' momentum was going right and he had to throw left. I can't remember any former shortstops including Torres that had poor arm strength.
I always thought the Mets would sign him. But in my opinion, the Giants would be a good fit for Torres. |

Torres would be a good addition for most teams.
I said it before, if the Yankees had a 2Bman at Triple A that has Torres' career stats, my guess is that many fans would be begging Cashman to promote him. |

I said it before, if the Yankees had a 2Bman at Triple A that has Torres' career stats, my guess is that many fans would be begging Cashman to promote him. No shortage of fair weather fans. And once a player gets on a s-list positives are downplayed or even ignored, negatives are amplified. |
