Volpe eventually needs to mature as hitter and start taking some of these walks.

Curve hangs high, Verdugo takes, 1-0 Sinker inside middle, foul tipped, 1-1 Sinker misses inside 2-3 inches, just below the top, Verdugo pulls the hands back, takes, 2-1 Curve waist high, inner half, grounded down the line at 1st, but Busch is playing there, fields, flips to Smyly, 2 down.

Torres takes a curve down and in, ball 1 Swings over a curve low, inner half, 1-1 Takes a sinker well outside, 2-1 Curve hangs up and away, 3-1 Curve barely misses the low outside corner, ball 4. Actually ticked the corner, but <5% on Gameday, so...marginal.

Soto up with man on 1st, two down... They go out to talk to Smyly about him.
Bounces a curve over the middle, Bethancourt keeps in in front of him, 1-0 Takes a curve that catches the corner inside, waist high, 1-1 Starts and checks on a curve below and outside middle, 1-2. Maybe shouldn't have checked, but I guess that wasn't the pitch he was looking for. Curve misses low, outer 3rd, 2-2 Curve well low, outer half, taken, 3-2 Five straight curves to Soto so far.

The 3-2... Soto chase ball 4, a FB high, fouls it off. He's been chasing the FB high a bit lately. Did it earlier in the game for his K. Sinker misses 3 inches inside near the top, ball 4. 1st and 2nd, 2 down for Judge.

Cubs lift Smyly, bring a righty for Judge, Tyson Miller maybe, or Nate Pearson?

It's Miller. junkballing 5-pitch righty, probably a sidearmer though I've never seen him FB at 90-91, Slider at 80, together 90% Having an excellent year.

Not a sidearmer but a low 3/4 slot slider guy. Takes a FB inside, 1-0 Slider hangs inner 3rd, Judge misses, fouls 1-1 Slider outside middle, Judge fouls, 1-2 Slider well outside, 2-2. Slider is similar to Cousins' but doesn't throw as hard.
Wheels to 2nd, Torres way off, but no one covers, so he gets back. Slider on the corner away, hit high to center, but the wind kills this one too, dies on the track as Crow-Armstrong moves back then late to his left and catches. Everyone thought that was gone off the bat...except Wrigley vets, who know what the wind can do in this park.

107.7 off the bat, and again, the XBA on the Judge flyball was .990.

None of the three Cubs hitters have ever faced Nestor before.
Hoerner gets ties up by a 90 FB waist high, inner 3rd, popped foul off 1st, Rizzo fights the wind and sun, makes it look easy, as befits a player who played many years in this park, 1 down.
