I thought I read somewhere that Nestor is expected to make his next start against Boston. OK...apparently they're now going with a 6 man rotation. This question remains...moving forward, who's the closer? Evidently fans get a jolt out of "swing & miss" closers who create excitement...guys like Chapman. I'll pass. A closer who can 3 outs with as little drama as possible...weak ground balls, pop ups or fly balls...works just fine for me. An out's an out...regardless of how it's recorded. They really don't have one but it looks like Weaver is getting the first crack at it. He closed out yesterday's and he was warming up in the pen in the 9th inning today.

No problem giving Weaver a shot at it...even though he said he blacked out in yesterday's game. Just goes to show the immense pressure that comes with the job.

The Yankees shut out today was their 13th team shutout of the season (they don't have a CG shutout from any pitcher this year), and the 4th time they've thrown back to back shutouts this season, and the second time they've done it against the same team. The first pair was against the Twins at the Stadium May 15-16, 4-0 and 5-0. The second pair was on the West Coast trip in May, blanking the Mariners 5-0 in the last game in Seattle and the Padres in the first game, 8-0. The 3rd was in late last month, when they blanked the Guardians in the 3rd game at home, 6-0, and then the Rockies in the first game, 3-0. They haven't been to Seattle yet this year I think that was at home? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Realize it's one game, but...any consideration given to making Nestor the closer? I thought I read somewhere that Nestor is expected to make his next start against Boston. think they went w the piggy back because they weren't sure what and how much they were gonna get from schmidt. apparently next round through will be a 6-man rotation, though the following monday is a day off w another the following week as well, so suspect they'll go back to a 5-man w cortes in the pen.
gil could be a closer because he has closer stuff but at times his command gets wonky. he also has ace stuff. ultimately think the job is weaver's though we may see holmes at times. as i said i'm good w giving cortes a shot but doubt they'd go there. kahnle and cousins are longer shots.

The last game of the Seattle series at the Stadium, and the first game in San Diego. Good catch, Anthony.

Greetings, teammates. Checking in ulra-late on this one. Had the youngest's birthday party this afternoon, then went to a local Buckeye gathering place to watch the Ohio State game. Good CFB day for me. Who had back-to-back shutouts to start the weekend in Wrigley on their bingo card? Encouraging to see both Gil & Schmidt look good in their returns. On to the next one...

They make Schmidt and Nestor a team. Start Schmidt for five then Nestor to finish. Next time start Nestor for five and Schmidt to finish. Why not?
