Yankees with some aggressive base running to home tonight worked out when it mattered at the end after the Volpe one earlier was out by a foot max.

Yanks take 2 out of 3 from KC. Bullpen is gassed and could use a day off but they will worry about that tomorrow.

that last inning and change was fun. looks like a solid outing from gil though perhaps his pitch count was a little high. weaver was great out of the pen. looks like holmes sucked.
another anemic offensive performance. big 2-run HR for soto and a productive out in the 11th to set up the winning run. wells w a sac fly to tie it in the 10th and jazz with the walk-off.

OK, so Weaver did his job. Berti did his job. Soto did his job. And finally Chisholm got a majestic walkoff fielder's choice, and the Yanks won in 11, 4-3. !

Chisholm given an infield hit on the walkoff. OK by me. Helluva try by Witt. Good job by Chisholm not trying to pull the slider low/away. Yanks win 4-3 in 11 innings, and get back to 22 games over .500 with 16 games left to play. Tigers won O's lost, so the Yankees magic number for a playoff spot is down to: And the magic number for the divisional title is down to

Three stars of the game: HM to Berti, for carrying home the winning run, to Volpe, for carrying home the tying run in the 10th...to Cabrera for getting the weird bunt safely down somehow in the 10th, moving Volpe to 3rd, to Kahnle for good relief work. To Wells, for getting just enough of a flyball off a tough lefty to score Volpe with the tying run. And finally, to Gil, who made just one mistake, a misplaced FB in the zone up and in that Massey put in the seats in right, but otherwise battled his high pitch count for 5 innings over 1 run ball, giving up 5 hits and 2 BB, but striking out 5 without his best stuff.
3rd star of the game: Chisholm for battling the tough lefty Bubic and going with the slider away, hitting a grounder with infield in that Witt had to lay out for, preventing a clean throw home for the game-winning single.
2nd star: Weaver, for getting the Yanks out of the 10th down by just one, and leaving ghost-runner Fermin stuck on 2nd in the top of the 11th by getting a flyout and two K's, setting the stage for the winning rally, and earning a much-deserved W.
1st star: To Soto, whose monster two-run HR in the 6th broke through Ragans' invincibility shield, especially after going down fouling one hard off his ankle, and giving the Yanks a 2-1 lead, and for fighting off the sinker inside from the lefty Bubic, and got the nubber up the middle leading off in the 11th that forced Witt to his left, letting Berti get to 3rd with 1 out, setting up Chisholm for the game-winner. He beat the Royals with both longball and smallball, and that's the story of this game.

Yanks win and O's loss means they back to 1 1/2 games up on Baltimore. Sox stay 10 back, Rays lost to the Phillies, getting swept in the series, and are 13 games back, and the Jays also lost, dropping to 15 1/2 back again.
No rest for the Yanks, they start a 4-game series against an annoying Red Sox team at the Stadium tomorrow, before taking a day to fly to coast for a punishing late season western trip to Oakland and Seattle.
Looks like the Yanks are going to a 6-man rotation for the last 5 series of the season, at least for now.
1st game is a special midweek night game tomorrow on InGameAnnoyingInterview TV, otherwise known as FOX, at 7:15 pm. Cooper Criswell (6-4, 4.11 ERA) starts for Boston, he's pitched well his last 4 starts, but the Sox haven't been letting him get deep into games. They finally let him go 5 for a win in his last start against the Woeful White Sox. Nestor Cortes goes for the Yanks. He got a win his last game, but he didn't start, throwing 4 1/3 shutout innings piggybacking on Clark Schmidt's 4 2/3 shutout innings start.
2nd game is the Friday evening on Apple+ at 7:07 pm. Tanner Houck (8-10, 3.24 ERA) goes for the Sox; he's gotten knocked around a bit in 2 of his last 3 starts. Clarke Schmidt (5-3, 2.34 ERA) starts for the Yanks; his 2nd start since missing 3 months with a lat injury.
3rd game is the normal Saturday afternoon game at 1:07 pm on YES. Brayan Bello (13-7, 4.70 ERA) starts for Boston; he got a win against the Orioles last time out even though he walked 5 in 5 1/3 innings. Gerrit Cole (6-4, 3.36 ERA) starts for the Yanks, he was the hard luck loser in the series finale at Wrigley, giving up 2 unearned runs in 6 innings, and losing to his old friend Jameson Taillon, 2-1.
The series finale is the normal Sunday delayed matinee at 1:37 pm again on YES. Kutter Crawford (8-14, 4.09 ERA) starts for the BoSox, he's pitched well against the Yanks twice this year in 3 tries despite leading the AL in losses and leading all of MLB in HR allowed. Carlos Rodon (14-9, 4.21 ERA) starts for the Bombers. He pitched decently in the opener of the just completed series against the Royals, but the offense broke it open after he left the game, so the win went to Cousins in relief.
OK, series preview is done. I'll check notifications.

good time to win. Shane would be giving us grief if we had lost I had planned to be here but I have let everything gotten in the way this year - first time ever I have not watched a game. But we are winning which is what matters.
