Stars of the game are pretty easy tonight...HM to the whole bullpen: Hamilton, Hill and Kahnle with 4 1/3 shutout innings in relief, and Nestor Cortes with a solid 5 innings, with 9 K's and just the mistake to Jansen.
3rd star of the game: Holmes, for overcoming his recent demons and getting Rafaela to ground out and Duran to flyout, stranding the ghost-runner Refsnyder at 2nd. 2nd star: Gleyber Torres, for providing the only offense the first 9 innings with a leadoff homer off Criswell.
1st star: Soto, for having the mental toughness to shrug off a terrible night at the plate, 0-3 with a BB and 2 K's, and looking bad multiple times on wild swings, shrugging off the bad swing on the 1-1 sinker moving outer half, and staying with another sinker away, grounding it hard (107.3!) past Story, who couldn't get to it, driving home Berti for the game winner. Yanks were 0-5 with RISP and had left 10 men on before that hit (Volpe must've left 14 of those 10 on base by himself...), but Soto got the only one that ended up mattering.

Game 2 is tomorrow at 7:07 pm on Apple+, so another webcast game for me.
Tanner Houck, the Sox' ace, starts for Boston. He's 8-10 on the season with a 3.24 ERA, but has pitched poorly in 2 of his last 3 starts. Clarke Schmidt (5-3, 2.34 ERA) starts for the Yanks; he pitched 4 2/3 shutout innings against the Cubs in Wrigley in his first start back off the IL.
OK, game preview done, I'll check notifications.

I'll watch until the Fin's game. Then bounce in and out during commercials. Wasn't the NFL game on Amazon Prime?

Does it ever get to the point where the Yankees try Oswaldo at SS? I'd like to see Oswaldo inherit DJ's job, utility guy who plays 4-5 games a week. He might if the Yankees can trade DJ, move Jazz to 2B, and make Berti their 3Bman next season. The other side of the coin is that Durbin is making a strong case to be next season's 2Bman.

What are Kahnle's three best pitches? A change up. When Kahnle throws that pitch I don't call it a change up anymore. He throws it too much to be a change up. A change up from what another change up? Is there such a thing? In my opinion, that pitch a screwball.

The fact is that OC is more versatile than DJ in the field. I always felt Cashman sort of forced DJ into that role with the Yankees. It feels a whole lot more natural to use OC that way.

Unless the Yanks are willing to spend the money to keep Gleyber, keeping Chisholm at 3B and inserting Durbin at 2B is more likely. That still leaves Cabrera as UTIF.

But he has dabbled in OF play. 2B, occasional 3B, Of, maybe even a few innings at SS…First base if they put him on stilts… 🤓
