decent start for schmidt. ran out of gas. leiter poured gas on the fire. another of those games where the offense gets shut down by someone we should do damage against. in this case a guy w 2 mlb starts. gonna go out on a limb and call judge potg. HM to weaver for a 6-out save and gleyber for a hit to get us on the board. good to see rizzo get 2 hits. maybe he gets going. Hopefully the bats get untracked. Seems like they've been fairly quiet, with occasional bursts lately. What a time for Judge to break his home run drought! I gotta say the pitching has been head and shoulders above where I thought it was heading.

Very happy with the win, but Leiter's continued presence on the roster is problematic. He has been an utter disaster and I'm concerned he's going to cost us more wins when we cannot afford it. Unfortunately, I don't see Cashman admitting that BOTH of the guys he traded for were lemons.

It was tough enough for Cashman to watch Taillon and Fitts, two pitchers he got rid of, shut the Yankees down in the same 6 day stretch.

Ok...stars of the game...Honorable mentions first, of course...all the set-up for Judge in the 7th, the Volpe walk, the Verdugo walk, the Torres single for the first run, the Soto walk. 3rd star of the game: Schmidt for 5 2/3 innings of shutout ball...until his last pitch which Yoshida blasted way out to right for a 2-0 Sox lead. Another good start for him, and for the team in this recent stretch of teams. 2nd star of the game: Weaver, for two outstanding innings of shutout ball for his 2nd save, striking out 5 and giving up just a single to Yoshida, 35 pitches, and he gets at least 1 day off, maybe 2, before he goes again. 1st star of the game: Judge for the enormous game-reversing grand slam to finish off the 5-run rally in the 7th, breaking his 16-game HR drought, and... Oh, yeah, I forgot... Judge's 52nd HR: 101.9 mph, 369 feet, 29° launch angle, a HR in 28 of 30 ballparks. turning all those into .

OK, game 3 tomorrow is the usual Saturday afternoon matinee at 1:07 pm, and thankfully, back at the usual channel, YES.
Brayan Bello (13-7, 4.70 ERA) starts for Boston. Bello has been up-and-down lately, but pitched a solid game against the Orioles his last time out for a win. Gerrit Cole (6-4, 3.36 ERA) throws for the Yanks. He's pitched very well in his last 6 starts (3-2 with an ERA of 1.31) but took a tough-luck loss in his last start last Sunday against the Cubs.
Game preview done, I'll check what notifications I haven't seen yet.

Signs of a GOOD general manager. Who did they get at the deadline/what did the gm do ? I haven't followed them closely enough. Picked up Paul Blackburn to bolster their rotation, picked up Phil Maton and Ryne Stanek to bolster their bullpen, and Jesse Winker to improve their outfield/DH situation.

I gotta say the pitching has been head and shoulders above where I thought it was heading. yeah the pitching has rounded back into shape. that was a strength during our early season run and perhaps they're peaking at the right time and key for any PS success.
for the most part the starters have been going 5+ and allowing just a couple runs. it's a good problem when we have 6 quality starters and they're forced to move one to the pen. not sure how stroman will do down there but nestor has made the case to stay in the rotation. the pen itself is reasonably solid. weaver looks like he could be the closer and there are a number of good arms other than leiter and mayza but they're just for eating innings in losing situations.

I was looking forward to a schmidt fitts pitching match up. Enjoyed listening to it on the radio.

Damn Apple. I missed a storybook finish yesterday…
I never even knew the score until just after I turned out the light last night. Was outside painting during most of the game…

Signs of a GOOD general manager. Who did they get at the deadline/what did the gm do ? I haven't followed them closely enough. Their GM inherited a pretty good but underachieving team with Lindor on it, whom in many other seasons would have had a chance to win the MVP by a country mile.
