Duran gets a waist high sinker inside on the 1st pitch, lined to right for a leadoff single.

Devers fouls off a sinker near middle Takes a change well outside, 1-1 Gets a slider outside middle, lifts it high to medium deep left center, Dominguez goes back and catches, and Duran catches him napping, tagging and going to 2nd basically without a play.

Duran tags on a routine flyball to left-center. Taking advantage of the rookie in centerfield. Probably never saw that in the minor leagues.

Sinker outside is called a strike, missed by 2 inches, 0% on Gameday, another bad call for this ump, but at least not all have been against the Yanks. They throw behind Duran, and he heads for 3rd, and they trap him for the 2nd out. Sinker outside, 1-1 Sinker outside again, fouled, 1-2 Loses a sinker way high and away, 2-2 Chases a 4th straight sinker waist high, 6 inches outside for the K, inning over.
Bottom 7, 7-1 Yanks. Volpe, Verdugo and Torres for the Yanks in their half of the 7th.

Intetionally Walking Devers with noone on base and 1 out in the 4th inning was one of, if not the most cowardly moves I have ever seen in professional sports This is why, as I've always said, Gerrit Cole is not and will never be a true ACE !!! He's a great pitcher who lacks toughness and can never be relied on to shutdown rivals or opponents in a big game. Hopefully Cole does not bring the Yankees down with this cowardly move and reverse what was starting to look like a special season following Judges dramtic Grand Slam ! Cole you are a clown and should be ashamed of yourself !!!!!

It almost looked like the celebrated veteran was singing instead of Robert Merrill.

Volpe last 35 games: .200/.248/.246 with 15 runs 11 RBI, 6 doubles, no HR, 38 K and 8 BB. When I said this season was a disappointment, it's because I feel he's learned nothing during it. It's possible he's wearing down late in the year, as he did last year. And if so, that's the fault of Boone and the analytical guys, or maybe Cashman telling them to play their marketable "future star" every day.
Volpe gets ahead 2-1, then rolls over on a cutter above and outside middle to Story, throws him out, 1 down.

Verdugo works a long at bat, the chases a change outside, taps it up the middle Story charges, fields in front of 2nd, throws him out, 2 down.

Gleyber gets ahead 2-1, then takes a change backing over the corner away, 2-2 I didn't mention it, but this is Winckowski pitching the 7th for the Sox. FB way high, 3-2 Sinker misses outside, ball 4. Another good at bat for a BB by Torres.

We need to see more consistency on offense for him to be considered the long term solution at SS.

Cutter inside, ball 1. Sinker inside, taken, ball 2 Sinker inner 3rd, taken, 2-1 Change outside middle, misses late, foul way off the left side, 2-2 Sinker starts inside, tails just inside, he spoils it out of play. Tries to check on a cutter low, 3rd base ump says he swung, and that's a marginal call at best. Maybe the bat went past home, but it was close, K, inning over.
Top 8, 7-1 Sox.
