Volpe last 35 games: .200/.248/.246 with 15 runs 11 RBI, 6 doubles, no HR, 38 K and 8 BB. When I said this season was a disappointment, it's because I feel he's learned nothing during it. It's possible he's wearing down late in the year, as he did last year. And if so, that's the fault of Boone and the analytical guys, or maybe Cashman telling them to play their marketable "future star" every day. Volpe gets ahead 2-1, then rolls over on a cutter above and outside middle to Story, throws him out, 1 down. The cute New Jersey boy story only goes so far. We need to see more consistency on offense for him to be considered the long term solution at SS. It's that but also this: he made adjustments to his swing early in the year, went to right much more, didn't fly open early, and he still does keep the front shoulder in once a game or so, but he's still trying to open up for home runs, and it's just killing him; he's not getting HRs, but he is getting a lot of routine, weak grounders and pull off the ball swing and misses. It's as if he gave up on what was working early in the year when the pitchers adjusted, instead of readjusting to what they were doing.

Intetionally Walking Devers with noone on base and 1 out in the 4th inning was one of, if not the most cowardly moves I have ever seen in professional sports This is why, as I've always said, Gerrit Cole is not and will never be a true ACE !!! He's a great pitcher who lacks toughness and can never be relied on to shutdown rivals or opponents in a big game. Hopefully Cole does not bring the Yankees down with this cowardly move and reverse what was starting to look like a special season following Judges dramtic Grand Slam ! Cole you are a clown and should be ashamed of yourself !!!!! Assuming Cole did that Devers intentional walk on his own, and not on orders from Boone...What do you think Joe Torre would've done if Cone, or Pettitte had done that to Manny Ramirez or David Ortiz? LOL The game has changed so much, it's not even a shell of the great game of baseball that once was!

Mayza in for his 3rd inning. Yoshida takes a sinker at the top, 0-1 Takes a sinker on the edge of the zone inside, thigh high, 0-2 Sinker inside ties him up a bit, grounds to Rizzo well off first, good toss to Mayza leads him to the bag just in time for the 1st out.

Taking advantage of the rookie in centerfield. Probably never saw that in the minor leagues. It's amazing how big the gap of aaa and mlb is now Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Indeed. And, like Yogi said, "90% of the game is half mental." Lots of AAAA types in the game today that just cannot make the mental adjustments.

Cole sure pitched like an ace in the 2018 playoffs. 2019 - When Verlander won the CY Young Cole was always the the Bridesmaid never the Bride in HOU ... Just a Clown with the NYY Not the best possible rejoinder, Cole went 20-5 with a 2.50 ERA, leading the league. Led the league with 326 K's, and was 2nd in the Cy Young voting. And he dominated in 5 of his 6 postseason starts, including game 5 when the series was tied at 2. If that's not an ace, there is no such thing, and a great staff can have more than one.

Story takes a sinker for a strike. Gets another one lower in the zone and pulls it through the left side for a hit. 1st and 2nd, 2 down. Blake goes out to give Mayza a breather. He's up to 37 pitches and is obviously tiring.

Sinker outside middle, taken for a strike by Jansen. Can't check on a sinker in the zone near the high outside corner, 0-2 Sinker about 4 inches outside near the top, takes it, 1-2 Sinker above and inside middle, misses late and under, high fly to right center, Dominguez moves left and catches. Inning over.

Lot less pressure on the Bridesmaid than the bride That was 6 years ago and he has continued to prove he cant handle the role of ACE in NY

Tim Mayza does the job and gives some much needed length out of the bullpen, which could use the rest.
