Rojas takes a cutter to the top of the zone, 0-1 Takes a splitter low in the middle, 1-1 Sinker dives, two-plane, to the low outside corner, taken, 1-2 Splitter bounced inside, Wells makes a quick move and saves Marcus a wild pitch. Splitter low, early, rolled over, but it's foul off 1st. Sinker outside corner, spoiled. Curve almost down the middle, and he waits on it, but hits a fliner off the end of the bat more or less right to Verdugo, now in right, catches, inning over.
Top 9, 10-2 Yanks. 26 pitches for Stroman in the 8th, 46 through 2, and he's 2/3 the way to a 3-inning save. The good thing here is that you can let him throw 70-80 pitches, and his arm can take it. Rivas in to pitch the 9th for the Mariners; he'll faced Chisholm, Dominguez and Rizzo.

47 mph slider thrown by the player-pitcher Rivas, pulled deep to right but foul Curve inside, 1-1 Slider outside, driven to left center, Rodriguez there in plenty of time, almost overruns and turns the glove the wrong way in front of his eyes, and...drops the ball for a two base error.

Dominguez takes a slider that was 8-10 inches high across the plate, but it winds up shoulder high when caught, so called a strike anyway.
Pops a curve to short for the 1st out.

Cabrera bats right against the soft-tossing righty, gets a slider at the top, lines a single to left, Chisholm surprised to be sent up by 8, coasts home as Arozarena with a good arm doesn't even try to throw to the plate, RBI single for Oswalkdo, 11-2 Yanks.

Verdugo takes a slider for a ball. Proves his versatility at the plate by ROLLING OVER on a 47 mph slider, grounding it to Rojas at 2nd to end the inning.
Bottom 9, 11-2, and the only drama at the moment is to see if Stroman can lock down the save.

1-2-3 for the Mariners in the 9th: Rivas, the pitcher who's actually a hitter, Rodriguez and Raleigh for Seattle in the bottom of the 9th.

Rodriguez... Slurve outside, fouled off. Cutter stays high, inside middle, 1-1 Cutter on the low outside corner, lined to right for a hit, Verdugo cuts it off, holds it to a single, 4 hits for Julio tonight keeping the hot streak going.

Raleigh fouls off a sinker on the corner away, 0-1 Slurve drops onto the low, outside corner, 0-2 Cutter at the top, fouled down. Splitter dives low and outside, Raleigh tries to lift it, pops to Dominguez in shortish left center, 2 down.

Arozarena takes a sinker just below the high outside corner, 0-1 Curve well low and outside, no chase, 0-2 Curve bounced even further outside, 2-1 FB misses outside 2-3 inches, again no chase, 3-1 Backs the sinker on the outside corner above the knees, Arozarena started to 1st, but it was a 20% strike, 3-2. Sinker backs onto the outer 3rd, Arozarena takes it for the ꓘ, game over, Yanks win 11-2. And yes, I forgot, the Yanks are 1 magic number closer against the Tigers, who now have 1 less loss than the M's, because the Yanks took the season's series from the Tigers, so they hold the tiebreaker. Yanks magic number vs. the M's is also 1, because this win takes 2 off the number of 3 before the game. So the Yanks get the magic number for at least a Wild Cards down to

Yanks win, 11-2, handing M's starter Bryan Woo his worst game of the season. He gave up 7 tonight; hadn't allowed more than 4 in any of his previous 19 starts. Soto completed his HR tour of all current MLB parks with the 40th HR of the season, and 200th of his career. Luis Gil struggled with command early, walking 3 more, but held the M's to 1 run in 5 innings, his 3rd straight good start since coming off the IL, getting to 14-6 on the year. Marcus Stroman seems to be the odd man out of the rotation, at least for now, so he got himself a 3-inning save, throwing 64 pitches. Yanks won their 2nd straight, and 8th in the last 11 games to break that 24 games over ceiling to get back to 25 over .500 for the first time since June 20th. They're now 4 full games up on the Orioles; the magic number for the postseason is down to 1, and for the East title, it's now down to

a laugher to open a 4 game lead - our biggest of the season. we've now won 8 of 11. all against good teams as the team appears to be peaking at the right time.
finally an offensive explosion. other than rizzo & chisholm, everyone took part. most of the damage from 1-4. gonna give judge potg for giving us a 4-0 lead. lots of honorables including soto w a 2-run hr, wells w a bases clearing double and gleyber for 3 hits and scoring 3 runs ahead of the boppers. nice to see the martian get his first hr of the season and ocab w his usual solid all around game including 2 hits.
though not his best, will give gil an honorable as well for 5 innings and 1 run though he got bailed out by a ridiculous steal of home by robles. a good job by stroman gaining a save.

Stars of the game...HM all over the place again...Marcus Stroman, for taking his removal from the rotation like a pro, and saving the pen with 3 solid innings of relief, earning the 3-inning save. Luis Gil, who struggled early, then relaxed with the big league and made it through 5 for his 14th win. Wells for the good job catching and receiving and the three run double in the 6th that put it out reach. Dominguez for getting on the HR scoreboard with his first since being recalled; maybe that will get him untracked.
3rd star of the game: Torres, for getting 3 rallies started with 3 hits, scoring three times, and making 3 good to outstanding plays moving both toward the middle and toward the 34 hole on the last one. Excellent all-around game for Torres. Three's the lucky number for #25, who's done a fine job with the #1 slot in the order. Torres now batting .319 with an OBA of .401 in the leadoff spot these last 28 games, 25 runs scored and 14 driven in. Torres batting .255 for the season now, he was still in the .220s just before the All-Star break, and is .284/.361/.407/.768 in the 2nd half.
2nd star: Soto, who set up the big man twice with a double in the first, moving Torres to 3rd and a walk in the 2nd loading the bases. He capped his big game off with his 40th HR of the season, 200th of his career, and completing the HR tour of all 30 current ballparks.
1st star: Judge for the two 2-run singles in his 1st two times up, the one in the 2nd coming with 2 outs, giving Gil plenty of error margin to work with, which he needed the first three innings, getting the Yanks out to fast 4-0 start against an excellent starting pitcher. Woo's bad night was basically caused by Judge's big first two at-bats.
