Had to look it up to confirm, but the lack of power had me honed in on him. Man, that 2013 team was bad. Had my favorite lineup of all time, on July 8th 2013 against the Royals:
Brett Gardner CF Zoilo Almonte LF Robinson Canó 2B Travis Hafner DH Vernon Wells RF Travis Ishikawa 1B Luis Cruz SS Alberto González 3B Austin Romine C
Like a spring training lineup. Split squad.

Taylor pitching for the M's in the 7th
Rizzo takes a slider up and away, 1-0 Fouls off a slider down and in, Fouls off a FB above middle, 1-2 Takes a slider way low, 2-2 Slider on the back door, Rizzo stares, ꓘ's, 2 down. At least that strike was, in fact, a strike, 50-50 on Gameday.

Volpe takes a FB up and in, 0-1 Takes a slider on the outside corner, 1-1 Misses a FB inside corner at 98, 1-2 FB up and in at 98.7, chases and fouls it. Slider just misses low and outside, lays off, 2-2 FB in the middle, but high at 98.4, Volpe doesn't chase, good take on that one, 3-2 Takes his timeout, which he usually does before a poor decision... OK, not that time, FB in the zone up and in, he spoils it. Ahh, there's the poor decision, one pitch later, takes a FB on the outside corner above the waist, at 98.3. 50/50 on Gameday, but I bet Volpe complained, ꓘ, inning over.

Bottom 7, 1-0 Yanks. Kahnle coming in, it looks like. Crawford, Haniger and Moore for the M's in their half of the 7th inning.

Volpe complained, but that was either on the black or at least too close to take. Learn to be a bat handler and not just a swinger.

Crawford...has never faced Kahnle before. Haniger is 1-4 with 3 K's, but they might PH Same for Moore, who's also never face him.

Crawford... Change dives down and in, 1-0 Same change down and in, taken, 2-0 Change clips the very bottom of the zone inner 3rd, not called, 10% on Gameday so...marginal. Change well inside, ball 4.

Runners are 2-2 stealing vs. Kahnle, this year. Haniger takes a change low and outside, ball 5. Takes a change on the outside corner, thigh high, 1-1 Misses a change near the corner low and away, 1-2 Swings over a change diving thigh high near middle, K, 1 down.

Coming into the season, I just wanted to see some progression from Volpe at the plate. His BA is up from last year, but his walk rate is down and he's gonna finish with roughly half the homeruns. These extended slumps where he looks clueless are demoralizing. He really needs to put in some work this offseason.
