Dominguez... Takes a slider to the knees down the middle, 0-1 Big breaking curve starts outside corner takes it above the knees in the middle again, 0-2 FB tails outside at 99, lays off, 1-2 Splitter tails to the low outside corner, fouled.
Gilbert's recent struggles against the Yanks are magnified by the fact that in his first start against them, he threw 7 shutout innings, giving up just 1 hit and striking out 8. FB knee high, inner 3rd, spoiled Slider outside middle, hit down the line in right, slices foul FB inside middle, Dominguez hits a looping liner to right center for a leadoff single.

2 more baserunners...geez...Schmidt has nuthin' today. Actually, considering the poor effort the team gave him in the first inning (hangover blues), I'd say he's having a really good game keeping it close. I have a hard time calling allowing 8 baserunners through 3 innings a "good" game, but credit to him for limiting the damage the last 2 innings.

I think he's doing OK, and the score and his pitchcount issues make it seem worse. Rizzo takes a curve into the zone up and away, 0-1 Same pitch, fouled off the left side, 0-2 Splitter outside, taken, 1-2 Splitter outside middle, thigh high, served up the middle for a hit, Dominguez stops at 2nd with nobody out.

Trevino has 1 sac bunt this year. Squares and takes a FB bounced outside, 1-0 Squares again, and another FB misses well low, 2-0 Big slider low in the middle, bunt taken off, and he swings over it, 2-1 Slider backs just up and inside, 3-1 Same slider at the 2-0, but outer 3rd, again swung over, 3-2 Hanging slider near the high inside corner, jams him, and his flare to left stays up for Arozarena, who comes in and catches, runners hold, 1 down.
1 for 6 with RISP.

Volpe takes a slider just above and outside middle middle, 0-1 Tries to check on a curve dropping out of the zone outside middle, can't, 0-2 Splitter dives low, outer 3rd, Volpe beaten, weak swing over for the K, 2 down 1 for 7 with RISP now.

Anyone else think 2024 Volpe is a step back from 2023 Volpe?

You can learn a lot about a young pitcher on days like this. Does he get his brains beat in or does he keep his team in the game despite his struggles?

Torres up... Tries to jump a FB, gets a big breaking curve that winds up low, outer half, bounces it foul off 3rd. Splitter dives down and in, swings over it, 0-2 Big dropping splitter winds up nearly bouncing, Torres chases for the K. That's pitching like an ace, weak fly and two K's after giving up back to back hits. Bottom 4, 3-2 Mariners. 20 pitches in the 4th, 69 through 4 innings for Gilbert Yanks 1 for 8 with RISP through 4 innings, 5 men LOB. 2-3-4 for the M's in their half of the 4th: Raleigh, Arozarena and Raley.

Jays won 4-0, keeping their slim Wild Card hopes alive. Sort of.

how concerned should we be about Volpe? I'm not concerned at all...as long as at the end of the season, Cashman showcases him as the best fielding SS in the game...and eventually some sucker team takes the bait...landing us a good pitcher in the process.
