Schuemann... Takes a sinker well outside, ball 1 Sinker at the knees, outer half, taken, 1-1, 5-10% on Gameday Sinker tails outside, thigh high, Schuemann chases for strike 2. Takes his timeout, because of course he does, this next pitch is critical Back leg slider taken, 2-2 Sinker about 8 inches outside, chased for the K. Considering that last effort on strike 3, I can see why the timeout was necessary. Yanks win, 10-0, their 2nd straight and 11th in the last 15. They get back to 27 over .500 at 91-64, and actually have a shot to come all the way back from that terrible 35 game slump and post get over .500 since they were a season-high 28 games over at 50-22. Yanks gain a full game on the O's and they lead is back to 5 with 7 games to play, and the Magic Number is down to Man, I hate using that picture of Ruth, but there are so few that show him in his Yankee #3...

Pitching has really come back around the last 2+ weeks, this is the third shutout in that span. Back to +4 on the Orioles with 7 to play. On to the next one...

Nice quiet polite thrashing of the A's. Classic example of getting a bad team out of the race down early, and letting them just play out the string on the game without much comeback effort.

coupled w O's loss back up to a 5 game lead. great all-around game starting w another excellent start by rodon backing up cole's gem from last nite. he's my potg. and how bout leiter & mayza throwing 3 hitless innings.
bats were on fire. almost everyone took part. will give stanton an HM for breaking it open w a 3-run bomb. our lead-off man torres seemed to be in the middle of everything with a single to start the game, 3 hits and 2 rbi. judge a HR and on base 3 out of 4 AB. dominguez base hit in the 1st added to the lead as did volpe with a HR in the 2nd. a seemingly "quiet" game for for soto w 2 hits and 2 runs scored.

OK...three stars of the game...HM to Volpe for a solo HR and beating out a DP grounder for a 2nd RBI, plus 1-2 more good plays. Dominguez for the RBI single with 2 outs in the first, picking up Stanton, who nearly killed the early rally with a DP grounder that scored the first run. Soto, 2 more hits and 2 more runs. Judge, 2 hits, 2 runs, a solo HR mashed through the nighttime maritime layer. Leiter and Mayza for 3 innings of no fuss, no muss relief mopping up the game for the Yanks...
3rd star of the game: Torres, for 3 more hits from the leadoff spot, starting the first rally with a single and scoring, nifty inside-out swing for a 2-run single to right later, and he's still doing a great job since they moved him back to batting first.
2nd star of the game: Stanton, for the 3-run bomb in the 3rd that broke the game open, 6-0, and basically ended all resistance from the A's.
1st star of the game: Rodon, his fourth straight good start, 6 shutout innings, 5 hits, 1 BB , 4 K's. Nothing spectacular, just a high-level quality start, getting the job done with the big lead. He moves into a tie for 2nd in the AL with 16 wins, and finally gets his ERA back under 4.00, if just barely, at 3.98.

Ok, the series finale and final road game of the season (Yanks can get to 50 road wins if they win) is at 4.07 pm tomorrow afternoon on YES...
Luis Gil starts for the Yanks. He's 14-6 on the season with a 3.14 ERA, and has thrown three straight good starts since coming off the IL with a back strain 2 1/2 weeks ago. Another 5- 6-pitch righty Joey Estes starts for the A's. He's 7-8 with a 4.78 ERA on the season, and he's also been up-and-down lately, getting knocked out by the Cubs in the 2nd inning last time, after pitching a solid 6 1/3 against the Astros for a win after getting knocked out after 4 innings by the Mariners for a loss after throwing 6 good innings against Texas for a no-decision.
OK, that's it for the game preview; I have multiple notifications to catch up with.

OK, notifications checked and responded to or not, and I'm going to get going. See you guys again tomorrow afternoon as the Yanks chase the elusive series sweep; they haven't swept a series since the Phillies in Philly at the end of June. If they get it, they also finally get back to their season-best 28 games over .500, which would be a 42-42 (.500) round trip from 50-22.
So, I say good morning (for the last time this season, I hope) to all of you. Bye for now.

With the Dodgers loss no team will get to 100 wins this year.
The most the Yankees can get to is 98 if they win out, but I feel like once they clinch the division they prob rest guys so thats a bit unlikely.
I'll give them 95 or 96.
They have a shot to pass the 99 win 2022 team in runs as that team scored 807. This one is at 776.
All things considered for being an under .500 team for a good portion of June and July they won the games when it matters and are on the cusp of another Division title if they pull it off this will only be their 3rd on since 2012 with 2019 and 2022 being the others. Both those years they made the ALCS.

coupled w cleveland's loss, now have a game and a half lead for the league and we're only a game behind the phillies and dodgers for best record. won 8 of 10 and the pitching is back to where it was during our early season run having allowed only 10 runs over the last 6 games. the starters keep passing the baton and the bullpen's been excellent seeming to have straightened themselves out. but don't look now, the astro have also won 8 of 10 as well. but first things first ...

They don't have to worry about the Astros until the ALCS if they both win their divisions and Yankees are #1 seed. Yankees if they got the #1 seed Yankees need to focus on locking that #1 seed up. Magic number for that is 5 since they have the tiebreaker with Cleveland. Cleveland has an off day Thursday so thats a chance there to gain that half game. Cleveland ENDS the season with the Astros. So the Yankees have a good shot at this #1 seed.

That determines home field for the Series, assuming the Yanks get there. Yanks have the tiebreak on the Phils because of the sweep, but the Dodgers have the tiebreak on them because they took 2 of 3 against the Yanks at the Stadium in June.

The Yankees are also 1 win away from home field vs the Astros if they meet in the ALCS correct? They are 6 up with 7 to go and have the tiebreaker. If I remember right the Astros always had home field in every ALCS they have played the Yankees in?
