Score recap and playoff picture:
Mariners beat the Astros, 8-1. Tigers beat the Rays, 7-1. Royals beat the Nats, 3-0 Blue Jays the Red Sox, 6-1. Twins got 5 in the 7th, and FINALLY got a win, 8-3 over the Marlins. D'backs lead the Giants 4-1 in the 3rd. Dodgers and Padres are 1-1, top 2nd.
The Red Sox and Rays are eliminated. The Royals and Tigers are still tied for the second and third Wild Cards. The Twins are still 2 back with 6 to play, so their tragic number is 3. The Mariners are still 2 1/2 back with five to play, and their tragic number is 2.
In the NL, Mets and Braves are rained out. Padres clinch against the Braves and D'backs with a win tonight, but not against the Mets who hold the tiebreak against the Pads. If the D'backs hold the lead and win, their magic number for a Wild Card is 4. Mets and Braves don't play again until Friday; Mets in Milwaukee, Braves at home vs. the Royals. (and maybe they're rained out on Friday and have to play a double header on Saturday, field conditions permitting).
Dodgers lead the Padres by 2 in the West with 5 to play, if they win tonight, the magic number is down to 2, if not, it stays at 4.
=====================
The Guardians won and trail the Yanks for the best record in the AL by 1/2 game.
The Phillies won, and lead the by 1 1/2 games for the best record in MLB. If the Dodgers win, they lead the Yanks by 2.
The Yanks hold the tiebreakers against Cleveland and Philly, but not against LA.
Late update: Padres lead the Dodgers 2-1, going top 3. D'backs lead the Giants, 4-1, going bottom 4.
That's the way it looks at 10:50 pm o the 25th.

OK, that's it for previews and reviews, I'll check late notifications. Not too many tonight, a lot of people checked out early because of the big deficit.

Hangs the slider near the inside corner below the waist, terrible slider, and Judge deposits it in the bullpen in left center, Yanks cut it to 2, 9-7! I'm happy for them. I'm happy for Judge. Four games in a row with a HR, his 57th this season. But they'll have to prove it against Dominguez now. He's gettable, but can the guys below Judge get him? Can they get anybody ? We all focus on the 9th but the Yankees wasted lots of scoring opportunities tonight. Sometimes, the numbers are deceptive. 5 for 8 tonight with RISP, but they did miss a couple of big opportunities to get back in it, 2 on in the 1st for no runs. 2 left on the 2nd with just 1 run, and bases loaded in the 5th after Soto's 2 run HR.

The big one was Jazz up with the bases loaded and two outs. He swung at the first pitch, got under it and few out. A big hit there and who knows?

I'll check back after the bottom of 9th... I believe this game was "called" when Yanks were down 6-1. Final score - 9-7 O's. But it was still worth watching for the Soto and Judge blasts!

They were 3-7 for RISP in the first game those Solo shots they gave up for tack on runs killed them.

Since the All Star break, Strohman's numbers have been DREADFUL.
3-5, 11/10 G/GS, 49.2 IP, 75 Hits(!), 36/33 R/ER, 13 BB, 35 K, 1.772 WHIP.
Opponents are batting .351 (!!!) with an .864 OPS against him.
He cannot be used again if you're actually trying to win the game.

after the top of the 4th, went down to my studio to work on new songs, had the game on w no sound and got off this toxic forum - folks "calling" the game in the 4th. came up short in the end but never quit. the "callers" can be happy because they were "right". pathetic ...
some bad luck on ground balls and a couple misplays (certainly some hard hit) hurt stroman early. not the start he needed coming in an emergency situation after having not started a game in a couple weeks. the 4th was batting practice. no way to sugar coat his 2nd half. down 5-1 w the BP short and not wanting to use the higher leverage guys in a losing game, boone went w recently called up beeter to see what he had. flashes but overall didn't pitch well. poteet a solid 3 1/3 though that one run helped put the game out of reach. leiter an encouraging 3 Ks in the 9th.
offense waited til the 9th to make some noise though had their chances early. some hard hit that found gloves or just pulled foul. jazz' AB w the bases loaded was huge.
not shading the martian but that's 3 misplays in a week. after missing nearly a year and now playing and learning a new position - the difficult LF at YS can't be easy. if you put him in CF, then you have soto in LF and his defense in RF has been questionable at times so you're not shuffling that deck. want his bat but when push comes to shove, boone's probably gonna go w verdugo's defense and put up with him rolling over pitches.

Similar to the Yes Board, this one does get a bit more salty when the Yankees are playing poorly.

I agree with you that Boone didn't play these game to the best of player quality for sure. I'm not seeing a bear down in either game. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
