Rizzo takes a cutter outside, ball 1 Cutter maybe clips the outside corner, called a strike, 1-1. Gameday says maayyybeee 1%. Sinker inner 3rd, taken, 1-2 Thigh-high cutter outside middle, pulled to the right of 2nd, but they're playing him to pull, so it goes into right center for a 1-out single.

Volpe takes a sinker on the outside corner, 0-1 Fouls off a slider in the zone low/away, 0-2 Cutter above the outer 3rd, he opens up early, fouls it off. Sinker inside middle, a great pitch to hit, especially on 0-2, but he's late and under it, fouls it. Sinker into the top in the middle, fouled off again. Hanging slider in the middle, up in the zone, but he opens up early again, trying to pull, misses under it and late, pops to short right, Kjerstad runs in to catch, 2 down.

Man, Jim Thome was a big old strong country boy. He's one of the really underappreciated players of the last 30 years. Strong as an ox and a genuinely amazing human being to boot.

Torres goes after a slider above and inside middle, pops it to Mullins in shortish left center, inning over.
Top 9, 10-0 Yanks, and the long, sometimes torturous season comes to its first great reward with three more outs. Kjerstad, Cowser and Rutschman for the O's, and Tim Hill gets the honor of being on the mound if he can get those three outs without getting into serious trouble.
A well-earned honor, too. Hill has been a surprising godsend.

Sinker misses inside at 88, 1-0 on Kjerstad. Sinker down and in, Kjerstad somehow inside outs a chop to 3rd, Chisholm fields and fires in a hurry, well low, hits the grass, but Rizzo makes a terrific backhand sweep scoop. 2 outs to go.
