Congrats Yanks! Kudos to Boonie for holding it all together through the high and lows! Now go get a ring for Boonie, Judgie and Soto!

Yanks win, 10-1, getting back to 27 over .500 with 3 games to play at 93-66. Yanks win a pretty surprising East crown considering what the starting rotation looked like coming into the season, especially after the Cole injury, and with the question mark at closer that wasn't settled until the last three weeks or so. They looked like they were trying to fumble it away with a miserable 33-game stretch in mid-season, but righted the ship down the stretch, winning 13 of 18, and taking advantage of the O's long list of injuries, especially to their pitching.
Now, they get the Pirates in for a breather series, but the Pirates have lined up some tough pitchers to face them. Then they get a week off with the bye in the Wild Card Series, before starting the ALDS at home next Saturday evening, I think.
Everyone kick back and grab whatever drink of celebration you want; the Yanks are East champs again, for the 2nd time in 3 years, and the 3rd time in the last 6 years. Very tough challenges ahead, but tonight is for celebration!
Almost forgot: Verdugo's 13th HR: 104.0 mph, 378 feet, 38° launch angle, a HR in 29 of 30 MLB parks. The only Park is wasn't a HR in is Fenway, would've landed in front of that deep hook-around in the RF corner there.

I knew I was going to miss this game which was why I was hoping they would have won one of the first two games of this series to wrap up the division. But I had to jump on to celebrate with you guys that have been here all season. Now on to the playoffs!

Stars of the game...HM to Judge with a walk for a run on the big hit by Stanton, adding a two-run HR later on. Good relief for the last 2 1/3 by Kahnle, Holmes and Hill, and a well earned division clinching appearance on the mound for Hill. Rizzo for a big scoop or two, and the two run single that capped the 6 run rally in the 6th.
3rd star of the game: Wells. More good receiving and handling, taking a follow through and two foul balls that nailed him, and breaking through his slump, not chasing and getting the big bases loaded walk that cracked the ice, giving the Yanks a 2-0 lead in the 6th.
2nd star of the game: Stanton, for the solo HR in the 2nd, the only thing the Yanks got off Burnes in 5 dominant innings, and the game-breaking 3-run double in the 5th, allowing everyone to exhale and pour it on for the rout.
1st star of the game: Cole, for putting it all out there, taking on a real ace on the other side and a complete O's lineup, not letting the 3 guys on the bottom of their order who all hit him well be any sort of factor tonight, going 6 2/3 shutout innings. He didn't make it through 7, but considering the opposing team, the opposing pitcher, the situation (needing to avoid the sweep and needing just one win to clinch), the two straight bad games the team had played in a row, that's STILL an ACE'S GAME, at least the contemporary version of it.

only saw the last couple innings but pretty comfortable making cole & stanton co-potg.
cole pitched a 2-hit gem outdueling burnes.
stanton was the offense for much of the game. HR in the 2nd got us on the board. big bases clearing double in the 7th to get the lead into comfortable territory. will give some HMs to judge for #58. rizzo big 2 rbi hit. good to see verdugo unload. well's walk w the base loaded important as well.

Glad I could make it. I was out with a friend for dinner but the poor guy is a diehard White Sox fan, so there was very little baseball talk.
