I see that day off did wonders for Judge just in time for the playoffs "joked" about the same thing. what happened to rizzo is why. watching the astros/guardians game and the astros are resting altuve, bregman and diaz.
astros leading 4-3 bottom 8. ramirez led off w a double. moved to 3rd on a grounder. w one out, caught in a rundown on a contact play so astros hold onto a slim lead heading into the 9th. one of the rare times rooting for astros. ramirez has to be one of the most under radar guys in the game. 39 HR 39 doubles (1st player since soriano to do that), 41 steals and 118 RBI. accounted for all 3 guardian runs in this game with a HR and sac fly. btw he fouled a ball off his foot in the 8th. again you never know.
fwiw verlander after a rough couple innings settled in for 6.

astros hang on to win so the yankees back into home field. congrats to the yanks for getting HF no matter how ugly it was. since tomorrow's game is now totally meaningless, wouldn't be surprised to see both soto & judge sit.

Just tuning up for the playoffs. Is that tuning up or tuning out? You said it buddy, I didn't. This team needs a quick charge.

If you want Soto's bat, the glove, the legs and the smarts, or occasional lack thereof, come with it. Soto is a great httier...but he ain't a great ballplayer. Sort of how Ted Williams was the best hitter of his generation but Joe D. was the best ballplayer. For half a billion, I want a great ballplayer. Sorry pal, that would mean Ohtani, and he will now cost A LOT more than a mere half billion!

Yes, because seeing Judge rusty after a mere 1 night off, wasn't enough rest. Now let's see what he'll look like in another 8 days...sort of like he looked in April after missing most of Spring Training.

The present value of Ohtani's deal is about $460 M and that is the figure MLB uses when charging the Dodgers for the LT. I think a lot of the stuff that is being printed about what Soto is going to get is smoke his agent gets in the air. But if Cohen or the folks who run the SF Giants are that desperate...so be it. sites.lsa.umich.edu/mje/2024/05/23/is-shohei-ohtanis-contract-really-worth-700-million/#:~:text=When%20taking%20into%20account%20the,%24700%20million%20headline%20number%20suggests.

The bigger question is, will Yankees management simply pass on such a big price tag for Soto? With Stanton getting older, and not reliable as consistent protection for Judge anymore, a Yankees team without Soto, might mean more "pitch around" and "intentional walks" for Judge, leading to far less home run production from him in seasons to come, and more importantly, resulting in less fans in the seats, since Judge (and his home runs) is the team's #1 box office draw)! The off-season will be interesting, for sure!

The off-season will be interesting, for sure! One thing you cannot call Hal is cheap. The Yankees spend money. Whether Soto is on the roster or not, the Yankee payroll will be the biggest in the American League. And there will be lots of talent available this offseason. For now, let's focus on the playoffs. We will have plenty of time to discuss the offseason when it gets here.

Just would like to point out I never gave up on this team all season no matter how bad it looked. The stats always pointed at the Yankees would finish the season 1st place. It's a marathon not a sprint. Let's win some playoff games now.

Qwik, many fans get negative at times, myself included. I try to keep my negativity, complaints, criticism, within reason. I remember the Merrill/Dent years, I also remember the bad seasons the Yankees had before George bought the team. Which is why I'm grateful that the Yankees have had for the most part contending teams the past 30years.
Every MLB team has holes/flaws. The grass isn't greener on the other side. Good teams make the playoffs and usually the hot team wins. I don't need to look any further in the past than the 2023 MLB postseason. The 1980 Phillies are just 1 of many on a long laundry list of teams that weren't suppose to win the world series. The Mets weren't supposed to defeat the Orioles, the Reds were supposed to defeat the A's, etc.
The 1986 series champion Mets had enough talent on their roster to be a dynasty. The Braves had 3 Ace starting pitches, 2 of them are in the Hall of Fame. The Braves also had a couple of future Hall of Famers in their lineup. As with the Mets, no dynasty for the Braves either.
All it takes in the postseason is for a player to make a error at a bad time or a pitcher throwing a bad pitch. If 1 or both of those things happen, stats/analytics become irrelevant since the game isn't played on paper.
To each their own, but as a Yankee fan I'm not going to have a negative look at the Yankees postseason chances even before the post season starts. That doesn't make me more or less of a Yankee fan than anyone else. I just don't understand the postseason negativity for such a good team.
