I gotta say. Sorry, but it's kind of annoying to read the negative post season posts for a team that so far has the best record in the American league. I gotta wonder why some negative Yankee fans even bother watching the Yankees play. you & i are on the same page max. voiced my feelings about the rampant negativity a couple times. certain posters in particular seem to root against the team to support their negative view. do wonder why they watch. seems rather masochistic.
with regards to consistency, team has been a disappointment but as you point out have the best record in the AL in addition to having the best record by far against .500+ teams. also do believe if they play their best baseball, "perhaps" this can be a special season. whether they will or other teams play better remains to be seen. I laugh when I hear fans say that they "knew a player wasn't going to get a hit". Yeah, MLB is a game of failure. Even if a player is a .300 hitter, the fans that "knew" that a player wasn't going to get a hit had a 70% chance of being "right". So, a prediction like that doesn't get any props from me.
In my opinion, it's the same when some have a negative postseason view of their team. Winning in the post season is hard, winning a world series is hard. So again, a negative prediction or negative attitude doesn't get any props from me. But as I said, to each their own.

Qwik, many fans get negative at times, myself included. I try to keep my negativity, complaints, criticism, within reason. I assume everyone here is a Yankee fan, although I’m slightly suspect of a few. Some are more optimistic than others, some more pessimistic. IMO, most land somewhere in the middle and are realistic, which is where I see myself. What I truly don’t understand is the “Debbie Downer” stuff. Why in the world would anyone make the effort to sign up on a message only to predict and subject themselves to what they see as inevitable gloom and doom? Sounds to me like “Fifty Shades of Navy Blue”.

I'm just speaking in general here about some things I have heard. There's been talk about the Yankees playing basically .500 baseball since their great start. There's also been talk about the Mets having the best record in MLB for a time. But the whole season counts, the Mets didn't play well at the start of the season and the Yankees played great, and played great without their Ace pitcher. Somehow that seems to be forgotten.
The Mets are in free-fall and might not make the playoffs. If they do make the playoffs it will be by a hair. As of the time of this post the Mets are 4 games behind the Yankees. The Mets were 4-4 vs the Yankees, so what? The White Sox gave the Yankees a hard time too. But again, so what? It's the whole regular MLB season that counts. I wonder if the Mets would even have a chance to make the playoffs if Acuna didn't get hurt.
The Mets and Orioles also got props for their late season trades. But most of those players that they traded for didn't help those teams in the regular season. As with the Yankees, Leiter hasn't pitched well for the Yankees, but the Jazz trade helped the Yankees even if the Yankees had to trade a good prospect for him. The Yankees have depth at the Catching position, so the Yankees dealt from a strength.
I guess the moral of this post is that the grass isn't greener on the other side. The only team that would have greener grass is the ONE team the wins the world series. Maybe that team will be the Yankees maybe it won't be. I'm just going to be happy that the Yankees made the postseason and see how their season goes from there.

But overall they are still a good team.
I just want to add that as far as stats/analytics go, there's a place for them, but sports aren't played on paper. The gambling industry makes money and is a billion dollar business because some fans have a "hunch" and or make "predictions" because of what previous stats say.

I see that day off did wonders for Judge just in time for the playoffs
I agree that Judge if he's 100% should be in the Yankees lineup until the Yankees clinch home field. The other side of the coin is that we don't know if Judge is banged up or not.

the negativity towards a particular player in a game situation makes me crazy. many times folks will "call" a player not coming through in that situation. as i've said, all his teammates believe and trust in each other, but these fans who've never played the game at any level, feel the need to belittle said player.
to your "grass in greener" comment. only 2 teams had better records, the phillies by just a game and the dodgers by 4. fans here love to trash the yankees seeing only their shortcomings w/o realizing every team has issues.

The quote that drives me insane is ... "This team wasn't built to win a World Series" Especially annoying when used after the season has ended. Only 1 Team wins the WS ... There will be 12 teams in the Playoffs...which of them is built to Win the WS Speak Now or Forever Hold Your Peace!
For the Record, Vegas Thinks it is the Dodgers followed by the Yankees, Philly, Houston
Team World Series
Los Angeles Dodgers +300
New York Yankees +425
Philadelphia Phillies +425
Houston Astros +800
Cleveland Guardians 10-1
Baltimore Orioles 10-1
San Diego Padres 10-1
Atlanta Braves 18-1
Milwaukee Brewers 20-1
Kansas City Royals 25-1
Detroit Tigers 30-1
New York Mets 35-1
Arizona Diamondbacks 40-1

The quote that drives me bonkers is the one that says "The hot team wins" in the playoffs. What the hell does that mean ? Of course the hot team wins. The rules are that you must win every series to advance. You can never have a four game losing streak and the WS winner can never be worse than 13 and 9. That is 591 baseball. No team in the AL and only one in the NL played better than that over the course of the '24 season !
I do believe there are teams - groups of men - that are better fit for success. Talent shows up over time. The Yankees won 17 of 22 series during the run from 1996 through 2004. Winning 75% of the series you play ain't just luck. Those guys were good !!!

Yeah for the most part "talent shows up over time". Well, in the postseason there are short series, therefore there's not much time as there would be in the regular MLB season.
In my opinion...The quote means that the better team doesn't always win in the playoffs. The quote doesn't say that the hot team doesn't win. The quote doesn't say it was just luck nor does it suggest that teams aren't good.

Well...then you have to define the "better" team. IMO, the team that wins 4 out of 7 games is the "better" team...at least for that series. BTW...we all know what a clutch hitter is, but is there really any way to quantify that?
