Jeez! I forgot. Stanton's game-winner and 1st HR of this post-season: 112.9 mph, 417 feet, 35° launch angle, a HR in 36 of 30 ballparks.

Stanton has to bat cleanup behind Judge tomorrow no? Wacha is a righty. Doubtful.

Stanton has to bat cleanup behind Judge tomorrow no? Wacha is a righty. Doubtful. I'd still do it. He had the RBI double off the righty Lugo. Playoff Stanton is a different animal.

The stars of the game: Honorable Mentions to Soto, 2 BB and the sac fly that scored the Yanks 2nd run in the 5th. Volpe for a single, 2 walks, scoring the run on Soto's sac fly, and the great diving catch in the 8th on Melendez soft liner in short center that broke up the rally, in between Witt's single and Perez' two out single. Another excellent all-around game for Volpe, who seems to be doing better in the series with the days off all the time. Somebody has to be the odd man out, and my choice is Kahnle, who faced the hitters at the bottom of the order and Massey in the 7th and 8th. No star for you, Tommy, but you get something much better: the win, because you were the pitcher of record when the game was decided. A little red star for Cabrera, 3 walks, and several nice stretches to save off-line throws to 1st.
3rd star of the game: Clay Holmes, who came in to the jam of that Schmidt left in the 5th with the tying run at 3rd, pitched around Witt and walked him and got Pasquantino to fly out to Judge, then retired Perez, Gurriel and Melendez in the 6th on two grounders and a flyball to center.
2nd star of the game: Weaver, it was dicey in the 8th, as he gave up singles to Witt and Perez, but he kept Witt stuck at 1st so that he didn't score on Perez' single to left, got some help from Volpe on the diving catch on the soft liner, and got the dangerous Gurriel to fly out harmlessly to Judge. Then a very efficient 1-2-3 9th against Melendez, Garcia and the dangerous Pham, getting him on a FB (!!) above middle (!!!) to end it. Just 18 pitches total, leaving him available for tomorrow to try to close out the series if the Yanks have a lead late. The streak was broken by his 1 out appearance in game 2, when the Yanks didn't rally, but in 11 games now since he became the closer, Weaver is 3-0 with 6 saves and 1 hold. In 14 1/3 innings, he's allowed 6 hits, 1 unearned run, 3 BB, 27 K's and the only thing he didn't go tonight was strike out anybody. But five outs is five outs and another excellent closeout by Weaver.
1st star of the game: Postseason Giancarlo showed up unequivocally tonight; he was nearly the entire offense with 3 of their 4 hits, RBI double off the wall on the fly in left in the 4th to knock in the 1st run, hard single to center in the 6th, and the game winning HR, towering blast to left for the eventual game-winner. He even stole a base for the first time since the Protestant Reformation (Well, no, he was credited with a steal in a defensive indifference situation, Yanks up 6-3 top 9, August 3, 2020; that's the most recent steal, over 4 years ago...) His WPA for this one was .400, .263 of that coming on the big HR in the 8th off of the lefty Bubic, who hadn't surrendered one in 12 games and 15 innings before Stanton got him, just his 3rd HR allowed this year in 35 innings.
