I was praying for Boone to take him out before the big boom imploded! I always feel that Cole loses his focus at the 1st sign of trouble. Perhaps he's too emotional. His command just wasn't there last night but at least he held it together enough to wiggle out of several jams. while he's had "decent" season with a number of excellent starts, have felt that overall he hasn't been as consistently dominant as he had been. seems to be more stinkers. not sure he's 100% back from the injury. his FB is down a couple ticks from 2 seasons ago. and he seems to shy away from using it at times.

I think you’ll find that just about every starting pitcher in these playoffs this season has had a rough go of it in at least one of their turns on the mound. Clemens, Mussina, Pettitte, Sabathia, etc. all had games in the playoffs similar to Cole’s last night. Nobody I trusted more in the post season than Andy Pettitte. Don't get me started on that roid raged, POS Clemens. I was at the game when he threw at Piazza's head. I've never been more embarrassed to a Yankee fan than I was at that game. Except for when he followed it up with throwing the broken bat at Piazza in the WS! pettitte was my favorite yankee during those years. definitely a big game pitcher and seemed to be just a good guy. checked his ego at the door. have felt always that not bringing him back in 2004 is why "the curse" was broken.
my second fave from that era was boomer wells. eccentric yet working class guy who bled pinstripes and also was money in the PS. was disappointed when we traded him for roger clemens, whom i never wanted and disliked probably more than any yankee player (maybe guys like kevin brown & randy johnson also make that list. roided headhunting mercenary.

He was throwing a lot of off speed stuff early in the count and when he was behind in the count and he can't throw them for strikes, the hitters weren't chasing because they didn't have to. I think you're right and there's a confidence issue here.

Yeah...Yanks definitely gotta get rid of Gleyber.
The top of the lineup seems to agree with Torres. Plus, he hit better later on in the season. As you know I would like to see the Yankees keep him and Soto. But I doubt that happens unless Soto and or Torres sign deferred contracts. I heard that the Yankees tried to sign Monty to a deferred contract, so maybe that's an option to offer to Soto and Torres.
yup gleyber thriving as the leadoff hitter. as long as he accepts the fact that his 38 HR days are behind him and uses RF, he'll do well. certainly would have no problem bringing him back, just think, particularly with soto looming, there's no room in the budget.

I like Pettitte as much as the next guy but he had his share of postseason stinkers. Game 1 of the 1996 WS and Game 6 of the 2001 WS come to mind off the top of my head and looking at the game logs there were a lot more. He had a 3.81 ERA in the postseason while Cole has a 2.98 ERA in the postseason.

We paid $250 each for 4 upper deck 3rd base side seats for that game but we were there.
Glad the Series ended the way it did and I got married the following weekend. Last song of the night was NY NY by Frank Sinatra.

At least Andy made up for it by pitching lights out in Game 5, the 1-0 Yankee win.

I loved Boomer...I was absolutely heart broken when they traded him for the head hunter Clemens! I hated him!!! Remember his stupid farewell dog and pony retirement show! I always blamed him for talking Andy Pettitte into following him down to Texas after he "unretired". Andys only blemish was hooking up with that trash, Clemens.

I’m currently wearing my white ‘96 Yankees Championship cap about town and during games… I have a collection of sweatshirts from the Dynasty Teams. Sadly, they shrink a good deal when stored for two or more decades.
