It could have been different had Boone gone to Holmes early instead of Mayza. Hard to say. They didn't want to overuse their relievers in a game they didn't need to win. Sometimes the other team makes the plays. It took the Guardians 10 innings and 7 relievers to win by the skin of their teeth. Their next starter hasn't pitched in 26 days. Sure this loss sucks but that's why winning the first 2 was important. Cleveland's bullpen has had to be used like crazy these first 3 games. Yankees still in the drivers seat here. Yes, but did he touch first? Was there a question about that? I shut the TV off not long after it ended. Nah I was just joking after what Vogt pulled after Stanton's HR.

At least we won't have to hear about 2004 like we would if we went up 3-0.

2nd pitch. 1st pitch FB was taken well outside. I lost the feed of the game. Missed the first pitch. Fair enough.

I keep thinking back to the top of the 9th and the Yankees had runners on second and third with no outs and only scored one of those runners. Ugh, it turns out they needed that additional run. I Keep thinking how they were only 1 out away from winning it in the bottom of the 9th.

Fry takes a sinker low and outside, 1-0 FB, inside corner above the waist, taken, 1-1 Sinker dropping thigh high, or below, in the middle, fouled off, 1-2 Hanging sinker above and inside middle, and Fry crushes it to deep left, two run HR gives the Yankees a crushing loss, 7-5, and maybe turns the whole series around. And now the Guardians have belted both the Yanks top two relievers, their fragile aura of invincibilty shattered and they might lose Holmes as an effective pitcher after another big failure and loss. Fought off crushing HRs from Judge and Stanton, took a win away that the Yanks took from Clase. This is a disastrous loss, potentially. Devastating. It could have been different had Boone gone to Holmes early instead of Mayza. Maybe. Or Kahnle. Or even Cousins, who'll have to get some play now anyway because Hamilton is hurt.

Well everybody saw that, so I'm not going over it. Yanks might have blown the trip to the Series tonight. Still up 2-1, but Gil an unknown quantity in first playoff start vs. probably Williams, who stuff is just as good and has five pitches, not three. Then game 5 with Rodon on the road. I still think they win the series, but if they do, it's now going at least 6, I think. I agree 1 out from 3-0 lead and cakewalk to total Christmas momentum switch. It's also they could use tomorrow as a "free space" game. If Gil has a bad day, use the long guys, Stroman, Cousins and give the top guys a rest.

Weaver's Christmas Gift to Noel was the crusher BUT didn't Boone learn Holmes is a setup man NOT closer.
Series is far from over and we are still 1 game up but after Soto, Judge, and Stanton energized the entire team and momentum of the series this loss was painful.

OK, Yanks have the late game tomorrow in game 4 on TBS again. The up-and-down Gil, who ended the season 15-7 with 3.50 ERA after two bad starts in a row, will be pitching for the 1st time in 20 days, so don't be shocked if the start tomorrow is similar to the start against the Guardians in New York in August, when he was gone after just 3 innings, having given up 3 hits, 6 walks and 3 runs. Cleveland pitches their hard-throwing rookie Gavin Williams. He was 3-10 with a 4.86 ERA in 16 starts. He got hammered by the Dodgers in early September, but otherwise pitched well in his last six starts. Not counting that Dodgers game, in the other 5, Williams was 1-3 with and ERA of just under 3.00: 28 innings, 20 hits, 9 earned runs, 2 HR, 10 BB and 27 K's. Like Gil he has the big right arm, tops out at 97-8-9, and has suspect control, but not as bad as Gil's. The good news here is that while Gil hasn't pitched in 20 days, but the start of the game tomorrow, Williams hasn't pitched in 26 days. OK, preview done, I'll check notifications. This will be interesting both bullpens were heavy used today. I think the Yankees used less relievers? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Yes, Yanks used 6, Guardians used 8, but their pen is much deeper in good relievers. Morgan and Avila are their 5th and 6th options. For the Yanks, with Hamilton hurt it's now...Cousins and Mayza, unless they IL Hamilton for someone. Have no idea who.
