Schneemann gets a 1st pitch cutter near middle, gets under it to deep left, but Verdugo gets the read and route, runs it down a couple of steps from the wall, fine play, 1 down.

Gimenez takes a cutter on the corner outside, 0-1 Curve hangs right down the middle, hit hard to the right side, Berti goes for it, then has to retreat to first in a hurry, as Torres fields and throws him out. Berti stumbled back across the bag and into Gimenez' path, but they just bump. No serious collision. Whew.

Hedges takes a cutter outside and low. Takes a cutter up and in, 2-0 Cutter on the low outside corner, he tries to go the other way with it, grounds to Berti off of 1st, right where he's playing, fields and takes it to the bag with far less chaos and confusion than the last play, inning over.
Pretty darn good shutdown inning, one ball hit very hard, one ball hit hard, but a fast, 6-pitch 1-2-3 for Schmidt in the 2nd, 21 through 2 innings.
Soto, Judge and Stanton for the Yanks in the 3rd.

We have to be the DUMBEST base running team in baseball It's bad throughout the league, but we are exceedingly bad at it.

And how about Berti's fielding at 1B? He's playing the position almost (I saw that slight collision) like he's been playing it his whole life!

Soto...
Shows bunt, takes a waist high sinker, outer 3rd, 0-1 Takes a change on the outside corner below the waist, 0-2 Takes his timeout. Slider low and outside, Soto lays off, 1-2 Sinker 4 inches high, outside corner, taken, 2-2 Change at the knees in the middle, grounder to Gimenez, he moves right a couple of steps, fields, throws him out, 1 down.

Change waist high, outer 3rd, pulls off it with a big cut, 0-1 Slider low near middle, taken, Hedges pulls it up, no sale, 1-1 Curve low in the zone, pulled toward the 56 hole, but Rochhio is there, adjust to a slightly weird hop, fields and throws him out, 2 down.

What the hell is going on with the Yankee base running? Do they know what they’re doing?

Stanton big cut at the FB at the top, missed it, 0-1 FB well high, gets past Hedges to the screen, Stanton lays off, 1-1 FB inside taken, 2-1 FB inside corner below the waist, good contact but it broke the bat, grounded to the 56 hole, Rocchio again right there, fields and throws him out. Yanks big hitters go 1-2-3 on just 12 pitches.
Bottom 3, 1-0 Yanks. 12 pitch 1-2-3 for Boyd in the 3rd, 55 through 3. Rocchio, then back to the top for Kwan and Manzardo for the Guardians in the 3rd.

And how about Berti's fielding at 1B? He's playing the position almost (I saw that slight collision) like he's been playing it his whole life! Inexperience nearly cost them on the grounder by Gimenez, because he didn't know where Torres was, and went for that grounder instead of going right to the bag, almost colliding hard with the batter coming down from home.
