Basic fundamentals. Something this team has struggled with too damn much. That and another Boone blunder. Not sure where he saw the benefit in putting a guy who's been out a month in over Hill, who has been mostly effective since they signed him. I think it is a miracle we are here. But this is not one of the dominant Yankee teams of the past. which is why this loss hurts. I wouldn't say it's a miracle...well maybe in that they didn't have to face either the O's or the Astros, whom they'd have had more trouble with. They have gone further than I thought they would in winning the pennant. Well, it looks glum right now, but it's not over yet.

Poor fielding and managerial incompetence lead to pulling a loss out of the clutches of victory.
But we will bounce back tomorrow!

The key was the walk to the bottom of the order. You just can not walk someone in that situation. Yep, that walk by Cousins of Lux was a bad mistake. You challenge that guy, and if he ties the game he ties the game.

Sucks for sure, but for whatever reason the Yankees lose a lot of series they win Game 1 in so win tomorrow and hopefully at worse be 3-2 out of NY.

Yanks blow game 1 twice, have to go back to the drawing board tomorrow. Carlos Rodon starts game 2 for the Yanks. Rodon was 16-9 with a 3.96 ERA in the regular season. In the playoffs, he fell apart in the 4th inning in his start against the Royals, threw 6 outstanding innings against the Guardians for a win in game 1. pitched 4 2/3 solid innings in his 2nd start against them in game 5. He's 1-1 with a 4.61 ERA in 13 2/3 innings in 3 starts in the postseason this year. Rookie NPB big money free agent throws for the Dodgers. He was 7-2 in the regular season with an ERA of 3.00 in 18 starts. In the playoffs, Yamamoto got hammered in game 1 in the NLDs by the Padres, but the Dodgers' lineup bailed him out of a loss. In game 5, he pitched five shutout innings, getting the 2-0 win to clinch that series. In the NLCS vs. the Mets, gave up 2 runs in 4 1/3 innings, and couldn't make it through 5 for the winas the Dodgers pummeled the Mets in game 4. He's 1-0 in the postseason, with an ERA of 5.11. Game 2 preview done, I'll check notifications. Same game plan basically get to the starter early make them use their bullpen early. Yeah, pretty much, assuming Rodon can back up Cole's good game with one of his own.

obviously a second guess but bringing in nestor was a disaster. a terrible pitch right in a LH happy zone. but too many poor fielding plays contributed. besides nestor the bullpen certainly wasn't crisp. Well at least Nestor's arm won't fall off, needing him to take a year off to recover...on the downside, however, he helped the Dodgers get one step closer to making sure he doesn't get that ring he's looking for.

Volpe takes a slider low, inside middle, 1-0 FB above and inside middle at 93.6, fouled off, 1-1 Close call goes Volpe's way, FB at the very bottom near middle, 0% or 1% on Gameday, 2-1 Slider in almost the same spot, Volpe fouls it down, 2-2 FB below middle, hit hard to deep center, but K. Hernandez goes back near the track, catches just right of center, inning over. Bottom 8, 2-1 Yanks. Vesia has a 16-pitch 1-2-3, might stay in for Wells and Verdugo in the 9th, but not if the Dodgers rally. Nut-crunch time: Edman, then back to the top for Ohtani and Betts vs. Kahnle in the 8th for LA. And they know the only pitch they'll be getting is a change up! Well, yeah. It's Kahnle.

He doesn't. Bad FB in the drop the bat happy zone, thigh high, inside corner, and Freeman jumps all over it, belts it out to right center, 3 run HR walks it off for the Dodgers in game 1, 5-3. Dammit. I think its 6-3 not that it matters since obv 4 is enough where 5 or 6 don't matter. Yeah, saw that and finally remembered they walked Betts to load them up and fixed it, but thanks, anyway.

I keep reading our defense was Bad ... should someone have caught that 500 ft GS because that is what losyt the game So if Gleyber doesn't allow Ohtani to go to third he doesn't score on the Sac Fly and it's likely 2-1 going into the 9th with Weaver pitching to close. The 10th never happens.

Well, it wasn't right down the pipe. It was thigh high, inside corner, but that's bad enough. It would have been better had it been right down the middle, instead of exactly where Freeman loves the ball. Perfect example of dropping the bat head by a left-handed batter. Considering the result, no one can argue that.

Yanks got everything they wanted in this game, except for Judge finally coming through and the two misplays that each cost a run. Cole made an excellent start. The key guys in the pen: Holmes, Kahnle and Weaver essentially did their jobs. Stanton hit a big HR. Jazz woke up and contributed. They kept Betts and Ohtani from wrecking the game. They kept the auxiliary threats in check most of the night. And they still lost. Terrible, disheartening loss when they could've taken the lead in the series. Now tomorrow the Dodgers put THEIR ace on the mound. Rodon gives them a puncher's chance, and Yamamoto hasn't been invincible in his three post-season starts. But you're right. They're the underdogs in tomorrow's game.
