Yanks got everything they wanted in this game, except for Judge finally coming through and the two misplays that each cost a run. Cole made an excellent start. The key guys in the pen: Holmes, Kahnle and Weaver essentially did their jobs. Stanton hit a big HR. Jazz woke up and contributed. They kept Betts and Ohtani from wrecking the game. They kept the auxiliary threats in check most of the night. And they still lost. Terrible, disheartening loss when they could've taken the lead in the series. Basic fundamentals. Something this team has struggled with too damn much. That and another Boone blunder. Not sure where he saw the benefit in putting a guy who's been out a month in over Hill, who has been mostly effective since they signed him. Yeah, it would've been different had he had a power lefty to try against Ohtani and eventually Freeman, but the Yanks don't have one of those in the bullpen, do they? |

Unfortunately, tomorrow becomes a pretty much must win. Nah, it wasn't a must win when the Yankees won the WS in 1978, losing the first 2 in L.A., then winning the next 4 in a row, and it wasn't a must win when the Yankees won the first 2 in 1981, and the Dodgers won the next 4 in a row. As long as a team doesn't lose the first 3 in a row in the World Series, they're alive until the end! |

Yankees are a great road team, but would be great to have the chance to win 1 then give it a chance to maybe finish it in NY or at worst win 2 of 3 and be up 3-2. |

I keep reading our defense was Bad ... should someone have caught that 500 ft GS because that is what losyt the game So if Gleyber doesn't allow Ohtani to go to third he doesn't score on the Sac Fly and it's likely 2-1 going into the 9th with Weaver pitching to close. The 10th never happens. So...if Kahnle doesn't give up the double to Ohtani, the error* which allowed Ohtani to go to 3rd doesn't happen. Anyone can play that silly game. *BTW...Gameday says the error was given to Soto. |

The key was the walk to the bottom of the order. You just can not walk someone in that situation. Yep, that walk by Cousins of Lux was a bad mistake. You challenge that guy, and if he ties the game he ties the game. amen |

The Yankees had 10 hits and 4 walks and left 11 on base while striking out 13 times. Can't strikeout that much with that many baserunners.

Right this play either would have had the score 2-1 or 3-1 (dunno if the ball goes out if the fan doesn't catch it) going into the 9th. Winning % goes up for sure. You gotta stop the ball there you can't give up an extra base when it could lead to a run without a hit in the next AB. I don't care who the error was charged to. Block the ball and make sure it goes down and doesn't get away causing an extra base. |
