The Yankees had 10 hits and 4 walks and left 11 on base while striking out 13 times. Can't strikeout that much with that many baserunners. They were rusty...hadn't played in almost a week.

Thats what I'm saying. For everything that happened they barely lost. We know they are better than this. Dodgers don't have many left handers either. Of course you want to win game one, but the long term prospects in this series still favor the Yankees if they can excel in their strengths.

You can't score without getting on base first. You're being unreasonable here. Nope...not at all, and I'll leave it at that.

OK...giving up the double to Ohtani was "excusable". I guess giving up the HR to Freeman was also "excusable". You can't score on a sac fly from second base... Actually, you can. It's quite rare, but it does happen every once in a while. Still, the point stands--Ohtani doesn't score if he's on second instead of 3d.

If we played good defense there would be no HR opportunity. So you could say we lost to bad defense as well. Yes...you could, and you have. Wins & losses are the result of team play...I prefer not to point fingers. Fair enough!
Let's agree that today was a heartbreaking loss and let's root the hell out of our guys to bounce back tomorrow!

You're being unreasonable here. Nope...not at all, and I'll leave it at that. You can't expect every pitcher to pitch perfectly every inning. The defense has to back them up at times. They did not.

I'm guessing it would still involve a bad throw or an error? I've recently been watching Ken Burns' documentary, "Baseball," and in one of the episodes they mentioned someone who actually scored from first base on a single (may have been Roberto Clemente)...I wonder if anyone has ever scored from first on a sacrifice fly, without any error being involved on the play.

Maybe should have taken a chance against Betts then who looked bad all night on top of it.

They lost Game 1 in 96 and 09 as well.
As we all know AJ Burnett would pitch the game of his life in Game 2 in 2009.
96 had to wait till Game 3.

Saves you the trouble of watching the remaining games, I guess. Or reading your 2 batter delayed emotionless pitch by pitch updates while Yankees are getting walked off ... I guess You can do that too, if you like.

The 09 loss was def worse than this. Cliff Lee dominated and silenced the home crowd after a 6 year layoff of no World Series. The next game had Pedro Martinez waiting for them wondering what AJ Burnett would give them.
It obv worked out, but this one was a road loss in a close game and they weren't dominated. There's def a lot of positives and things to look forward to.
Obviously losing these games with 2 outs in the 9th/10th is things that should not happen. 2 of the 3 Yankees losses this post season have now been walk offs that they led in the 9th inning.

Loss on Boone. Man, his decisions. The whole stadium knew not to bring in Cortes in that kind of situation after the layoff. Should have let Cole finish the bottom of the order off and get in the extra inning. That extra inning would have made the difference. Keep Cortes as middle relief.
Boone has done this all year and yet we won in spite of him. (Well, outside of finally switching to Weaver, that cost us.)

One good thing. Cortes only threw 2 pitches, so Boone can easily use him to close game 2.
