Kahnle stays in to start the 9th.
Edman takes a change above and inside middle, 0-1 Fouls off a change at the bottom in the middle, 0-2 FB tails inside, he takes, 1-2 Change in the zone up and away, chopped to the left side, Chisholm cuts it off, throws him out by a step, 1 down.

Chisholm... Takes a FB at the knees in the middle, 0-1 Takes a FB waist high, outside corner, 0-2 Takes his timeout. Stop arguing, Jazz, both pitches were in the zone this at bat. Slider low in the middle, lays off, 1-2 Slider down and in, he barely spoils it off his foot. FB just outside, fouled off the left side. FB up and away, chases it for the K, big hack, came up empty. Top 9, 4-0 Doddgers. 2003; that loss to the Marlins, above all, is the one I hate. More than the Angels in 2002, than the Red Sox in 2004, than the D'backs in 2001, and the Indians in 1997. If you want to know why, the reason is simple: The 2003 Yankees were the much better team, and let that entire pitching staff shut them down, not just Beckett, but guys like Pavano and Brad Penny, who were decent pitchers, nothing more, and because of Wells' stupidity in game 5. Agreed 2001 was annoying, but just bloops you couldn't do much about. This one so far first game was competitive, but this and game 2 have been mostly the same early deficit thats not insurmountable, but can't score anything. Might get close in the 9th, but can't do a thing before.

Weaver in to get the last two outs. So little does Boone trust Mayza, down by 4. Ah, well. This only matters if there's a game 5.

I am happy we got to the WS for the first time in 15 years I doubt we will beat an elite pitching staff with Cashman's view that walks and home runs are all you need offensively. Possibly that is true against bad pitchers - not in the WS. Next year he will ignore the offensive problems and go out and buy another pitcher. In other words, we should be lucky we saw pennant #41, but be prepared to go another 15 yrs without seeing the Yanks win another ring.

Might get close in the 9th, but can't do a thing before. In 2001, the D'backs outplayed the Yanks, who stayed in the series only because of Kim, and Brenly's stubbornness to keep using him, and then they almost won anyway, but Mariano uncharacteristically threw the bunt away and let Womack reach him for a double. He's entitled to one.

Ohtani... FB in the zone down and in, taken, 0-1 Change bounced over the outer half, 1-1 Cutter bounced down and in, hits Ohtani. Man on 1st, 1 down for Betts.

When was the last time a team was down 3-0 and came back to win the WS??????? That would be...uhhhh...NEVER. The Yanks are the only team in MLB history to blow a 3-0 lead in the post-season, to the Red Sox in the 2004 ALCS.

Something missed outside, ball 1 on Betts. Cutter misses low/away, taken, 2-0 Cutter waist high, outside, pulled sharply but right to Volpe, and they turn a 6-4-3 double play ball into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.
Bottom 9, Yanks down 4-0, Dodgers 3 outs away from starting to shovel dirt on the season. Yanks will send up Volpe, Rizzo and Wells against...I'm not sure.

When was the last time a team was down 3-0 and came back to win the WS??????? Never. I remember someone asking the same thing about the playoffs in 2004, when the Yanks were up 3 games to none over the Red Sox. We know how that ended, so there's always a first time.

OK, it's Kopech. Wells grounded out against him in game 1; the other two haven't faced him in the Series. Volpe has never faced him. Rizzo is 0-6 with 1 K against him.
