Volpe takes a FB waist high, inner 3rd, 0-1
Pulls off a fat slider right down the middle, but he flies open early, fouls it off. Got a meatball, missed it.
FB up and in, Smith holds it, but doesn't get the call, 1-2
Overthrows a FB high over the middle, Volpe doesn't chase up the ladder, 2-2
Slider backs up and in, he lays off that as well, 3-2
Takes his timeout.
Yanks the slider outside, and even Volpe can read that one, so even though he started to open up early, he was able to hold back and walks. Volpe on 1st, 1 out for Wells.

Curve misses outside by 2-3 inches, called a strike anyway; 1st bad call of the game goes against the Yanks, 1-1
FB in the zone low/away, taken 1-2
Throw over on Volpe.
Runners were 2 for 2 against Casparius in his 3 games and 8 innings.

FB waist high, inner 3rd, 96, popped foul. Yanks miss another mistake.
Bounces a curve, Volpe goes and Smith's throw isn't nearly in time, stolen base and the Yanks have another RISP.
FB up in the zone, blasted high and deep to right of center, Volpe doesn't read it right and has to STOP AT 3RD INSTEAD OF SCORING ON THE OBVIOUS DOUBLE, and if that doesn't sum up the difference between the teams, nothing will. Wells hits a huge double with a RISP and they DON'T SCORE.

Slider outside middle, hit hard, but right to Freeman, who takes it to the bag as Volpe scores and Wells moves to 3rd, 2-1 Dodgers.
Smoltz might be right about the triple that Wells might have had, and the game would be tied right now.

Torres goes after a waist-high slider on the outside corner on the 1st pitch, pops it to short right. Betts comes in and catches, inning over.
Top 3, 2-1 Dodgers.
21 pitches in the 2nd for Casparius, and 43 through 2.
Top of the order for the Dodgers in the 3rd: Ohtani, Betts and Freeman.
I wonder if that's it for Casparaius.
If even the Yanks needed a shutdown inning, they need one right now from Gil, with the gauntlet stacked against him. Big momentum shift if he can deliver.
