I know. Every once in a while I feel sorry for him. Want to see him return with a clean slate and just see what happens. The problem is that he won’t let the past die and dirties the slate almost before he even shows up…

The problem is that he has zero level of self deprecation. He’s immediately insulted and has to be a major Richard at the first sign of humor turned on him. Now I feel ashamed. Like I’ve reached a new low…

The colorful profanity he left on my personal messages was impressive.

What happened with you and Joe reminds me a bit of the relationship in the movie “Tombstone” between Doc Holliday and Johnny Ringo. In the end Joe was “just too nervous for his own good”. Joe had always been one with strong opinions that was willing to discuss any subject at any time. But somehow you and he were destined to shoot it out. I can’t say I ever quite understood the riff, but it was obviously no fun for you, him, nor the rest of us. I never knew him to be horribly profane nor hateful. It seemed certain words and phrases triggered his temper. As I recall jackboot drove him into a frenzy. What’s done is done. Doc Holliday outshot Johnny Ringo. You were his huckleberry. BTW, I’ve read the argument that the term used may have been huckle-bearer, but I don’t buy that. The dialogue is clear to me. It was just an expression…unless you wanna fight about it. We could PM each other…🤓

We could PM each other…🤓 What is not fun for me is when someone feigns to want to have a discussion, yet refuses to address points denoted in the exchange. Why even pretend that it is a discussion? More like two monologues that eventually devolve into individual diatribes. What I did not appreciate was Joe's proclivity to call posters liars and leftists simply because they had different points of view or did not validate his positions. That was the reason we lost Chuck, who was a great guy and poster who did not mind expressing his opinion or having an actual discussion with civility and humor. Consistently, Chuck described himself as an Independent politically and was quite open about individual issues and where he stood, not all of which followed the checklist of ideologues on either side of the fence. Despite years of posts to corroborate Chuck's assertions, Joe continued to brand him a leftist and accuse him of mendacity, as if he was anointed with some mystical power and entitlement for summary judgement. Another issue I had was Joe's treatment of Russ. Whenever Russ would post, Joe had a Pavlovian response to bully and to abuse. While Russ can be contrary - by his own admission - no one deserves repeated ad hominem remarks devoid of humor, good-natured teasing, or without an obvious tongue-in-cheek intention. Lastly, I lost count of how many times I advised Joe to simply "read my post" and refrain from presuppositions that I meant something other than what I wrote. After Sarah died, I stopped posting regularly and when I did it was usually a sentence or two, or a link that I thought might contribute to a discussion. Somehow, this rankled Joe, who proceeded to categorize me negatively for my posting habits. Rude, distrustful, entitled. Yet, I let it go. Until Chuck left. That was the last straw. Because of all the aforementioned, I purposefully made an allusion and used the term jackboot in passing as possibly inhabiting a nameless poster's closet. Joe assumed the connection and became aggrieved. No profanity was used by me; there was no name-calling by me; no direct assignment of my post to anyone in particular. I made another allusion to Wagner and Make America Great Again red caps. Joe did the rest, completely clueless of how he had treated others. I showed you some of Joe's epithetical private posts to me and my replies which used no profanity or vulgarity. Like TMarino, a fake name was used for an attempted surreptitious return. It did not last long, as there were no tear-stained posts longing for his return as were expected - I suspect. I can always be wrong.

I guess we all died a little in that damned war… It was like two posts... Two posts. Fiery. PMs were flying, too. Mostly just everyone getting out of the way and letting two fighters fight, not over-enforcing the rules. Joe encouraged me to keep up with him via FB. I reached out a couple times. He hasn’t reached back out beyond those contacts I initiated, not that I can recall. It’s been a while. We got reconnected through Sierchio at one point. Life goes on… But if I see this Joey Wales, I think I’ll tell him the war is over. Then, I’ll let him make the first move. I owe him that…

Where was I when Rizz and Joe were going at it? I had no clue. Inger has obviously taken his Ambien early. There was no war. Just a couple indirect comments from me in posts to Inger and his replies to me. Joe then sent me a few profanity filled private messages, which I shared with a curious Inger. Joe threatened to leave the board, and after lurking for about a week he stopped posting here…at least under his former email and avatar.

Where was I when Rizz and Joe were going at it? I had no clue. Like Rizz said, it was only a couple of posts… the diversion into PMs was probably lengthier…
