Back from the holiday scramble. I am no relative of James but I am from your era. And James and I had some things in common. The trade was not the end of his Yankee connection. He gave up Maris' #20 homer in '61. Would like to see that video highlight. The game was in Yankee Stadium and Mantle hit one out before Maris hit two. Thanks for responding. I never knew that about him giving up Maris' twentieth. I remember another obscure Yankee pitcher from that same time John Gabler who went to the expansion Senators in 1961. I think I mainly remember those guys for being in the Yankee Yearbooks. Zack Monroe, Fred Kipp, Billy Short. All from that time making very brief stops. In fact it was Billy Short being brought up to the Yankees from Richmond in 1960 that caused James to be sent down. He tells the tale in a 2011 interview titled "Catching Up With Former Yankee Johnny James" that can be read in its entirety at SEAMHEADS.COM In 1960 I was doing pretty well. I was 5-1 and had pitched in more games than any other pitcher. Casey comes with a left-handed pitcher who was playing down in Richmond, named Billy Short. He called me into the office after I had pitched the last four innings of a game against the White Sox, and sent me back to Richmond. I had an option left in my contract. The guys told me he didn’t really want to send me back, he wanted to get rid of Duke Maas, but Casey had a thing about, a fear I should say, about giving up a player who might be picked up by another team in the American League, and the possibility of hurting the Yankees later on. Since they had an option on my contract, they didn’t have to ask waivers on me. They sent me back, which really kind of broke my heart, and I didn’t really react to it very well.

I love that there is actually an interview with Johnny James and I will check it out. Billy Short, as I have noted previously, was touted as "the next Whitey Ford" but he wasn't even the next Johnny James. He is, however, in the International League Hall of Fame, and in all seriousness that is still a wonderful accomplishment.

Long time YES site member. Used to watch Yankee games out here at the Oakland Coliseum. It would have to be a real important game for me to go to that toilet anymore. Will/do, however, go to Oracle Park!

I've been to Oracle Park back when it was called AT&T Park. Many names but probably the most gorgeous ballpark I've seen. We have some members here who also used to watch games at Oakland Coliseum. It often gets put in all the "worst ballparks articles" but I've heard the atmosphere is welcoming.

Will/do, however, go to Oracle Park! Welcome, glad you joined up! I don't blame, I wouldn't want to support that joke of an owner in Oakland either. But then again, you could get some great seats when the Yankees come to town.

I remember you posadafan! Welcome back!… Not sure i remember you but i had a different sn than the one i am using here . And i last posted at yes over 10 years ago I’ve been around on message boards is the 90’s. Started out on the old Prodigy forums. I found Pinstripe Plus in I think 2005, stayed there until their big changeover pushed most of us away. I was here with Kaybli when he started this board. Lots of miles on me…

I also gave reddit a try but it has too many morons on it that worship cashman and too many unproven prospects .
