I just went over to the old Scout site to see if anyone had made any new comments. No one had, so I clicked on the banner up above to look at the box score for this game. For some reason, I also stopped to read the text with the game story. So here's this news article from the AP, and it's on the CBS news site, and there is a factoid in there that is so obviously wrong that I want to puke. The article stats that Nimmo set a Mets record when he was hit twice today to give him 15 HBP for the season, one more than Lucas Duda's 14 last season. Nice going, guys. I'll tell Ron Hunt that the SEVEN TIMES he was hit by a pitch more than 15 times in a season consecutive league-leading seasons by the way), including his modern record of 50 HBP in 1971 no longer count. Hope he didn't get any bruises...Hunt missed only 10 games in that 1971 season...

from RAB:
"After the game Chapman said his achy left knee — he’s been pitching with tendinitis in the knee pretty much all year — was not an issue Saturday. He said the knee feels better than it has a while thanks to the All-Star break, in fact. I suppose that’s good? Chapman and Aaron Boone chalked up the rough outing and wildness to rust. Hopefully that’s all it was. As long as Chapman says his knee is okay, I’ll chalk it up to rust too."

I hope it was just a one game thing for Chapman, but that was really strange watching him yesterday, he just totally lost it. Shreve to the rescue!

I had this thought after watching Warren struggle with command Friday, and then reinforced by the Chapman problems.....did the Yankee pitchers just chill during the AS break, rather than be on some sort of workout routine?.....they need to throw on some schedule in order to stay sharp...……..Boonie and his "rest ethic" might have told them to not even pick up a ball.....sometimes I wonder these days....

I don't know what was going on there. We saw Chapman pitching (though effectively) with reduced velocity (97) during the early weeks of the season for a period. I expressed concern about that at the time. I had posted that on Scout and Jwild said that Chapman was the least of our worries because he was getting people out. The thing is that somehow, sometimes, something goes awry for this guy. Is it mechanics? Fear of hurting the knee? Is there an arm issue or fatigue issue that crops up now and again? I guess when I see a guy throwing at velocities up to 104-105 I have to wonder when the arm is going to fall off at the shoulder, or strain at the elbow. Chapman gets tremendous torque at the hips. They turn more than those of most pitchers (any pitchers?) I've ever seen. Could it be issue an with the hips? I think that may be where he picks up those extra couple of MPH that most pitchers can't generate. Yes. Maybe it's a fluke. It's mechanical. He slept wrong on his arm/hips/knee/neck. He fired his gun into his garage wall too many times on the all star break. Whatever it is, I hope it goes away...

Whatever it is, I hope it goes away... both he and Warren looked very much like "rust"...….Chapman said there was not an injury reason for his wildness......to me, keeping the pitching staff on a regular throwing routine over an extended break such as we had this year, is just basic managing.....maybe they did that....maybe not.....

Maybe Chapman Caught the Sanchez Virus???!!! Too lazy to run to first when if he's safe the games tied and if he's out it's game over? It's gonna take a while to be redeemed by me
