Those were some interesting statements dome made. Not sure where they came from but one thing I'm pretty sure of is that 2.2 million divided by over 300 million doesn't come anywhere near 22%. There would need to be nearly 70 million people in jail for it to be 22%.

To give him the benefit of the doubt, he probably means that we have 22% of all people imprisoned worldwide. Not that 22% of the US population is imprisoned (but I found the post you are referring to and it definitely does read the way you are interpreting it). I agree that we shouldnt be sending people to prison for frivulous reasons. Scaling back the drug war significantly would help with that. I think that having an iron fist when it comes to Rule of Law is a good thing to keep order in a society but having a society that is so overloaded with laws and regulations is not right either because this becomes a landscape that a free men can no longer easily navigate.

Yeah, so 2.2M / 300M = .007%, but the truth and the facts tend to get a bit unraveled in his rants...We must slay the evil dragon Trump...

You know another interesting point about the United States incarceration rate talking point and how 22% of world wide prisoners are in the US etc. etc. is that there are a lot of nations in this world where simply living there is like being imprisoned...they just are formally behind bars. The US can do better on this issue but this should be taken into account when throwing those stats around.

The US can do better on this issue but this should be taken into account when throwing those stats around. On balance those complaining are not giving any credit to our justice system, either. Would they rather that someone committing crimes is then allowed to remain on the streets unpunished so that they may continue to commit crimes? Would they rather that drugs be decriminalized? (Actually, most of the complainers would, which is the real reason the incarceration rate concerns them). Or perhaps they’d rather reduce the incarceration rate by increasing the execution rate, or by allowing their police to indiscriminately execute peoplr on the streets? I do agree mich that raw numbers can be meaningless and must be taken into context. Rather than be concerned with the incarceration rate, we should be concerned with the societal ills that are producing so many criminals. Problem: Incarceration rate. Solution: A better society. How to get there: Complex. Many opinions, many explanations. Start with our failing educational system and work forward from there. No child left behind, my ASS. EVERY child is getting left behind. Participation trophies, pass/fail grading. Lack of discipline in schools (and often at home). None of it is conducive to a long term solution...

www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2018/04/27/about-one-third-of-u-s-children-are-living-with-an-unmarried-parent/Im not saying that being raised in a family without two parents is necessarily a horrible thing, especially if the absent parent is a prick or maybe the other parent is away working or deceased, but it sure seems that when over a third of kids overall don't have either a male or female role model at home, it has to have an effect on educational outcomes, behaviour and future success. At least statistics seem to support that conclusion.

At least statistics seem to support that conclusion. As the product of a one parent rearing, I will tell you that there were definite struggles and I lived with horrible depression and sadness as a child. For whatever reason, I was blessed with the ability to spot the issues myself and at least survive them. I wanted to make sure that I dudn’t Do the things that were said and done to me, and went out of my way to not live a life that would lead to divorce. Ironically, it’s not only one person that has to work, and I still wound up getting divorced in my mid-fifties. At least by the my son was 31. For some reason I’ll never quite understand, I simply knew right from wrong and stayed on the straight and narrow, but I can certainly see how many, many kids would strike out in protest and handle things differently from the way I did. Had my depression or sadness manifested itself in anger, then yes, I too could have veered off course. I do believe that children have an innate ability to sense when “something” is wrong with the family unit. Maybe it was good for me that I never met my father until I was 20 years old. I’m not sure how, but maybe that was one less bit of sadness for me to handle and one less mental conflict to deal with. It has to be horrible when your role model is just involved in your life enough to make it confusing, especially if the guy would be a turd...(Which is not how I perceived my dad after meeting him, BTW)...

Those are very good points gentlemen. Thanks. Only happy to support your noted and correct critique of the former Dome post. He (Dome) offers a lot of good information that is usually a bit slanted toward his political preferences. Sometimes it’s correct, sometimes not. I’m sure that to be true of my political views, as well, though I feel I’m more balanced in my viewpoints as a registered Independent with a slightly conservative lean, I also tend to be more pliable in my views and can be convinced to changed or acquiesce when I feel it makes sense... And of course, where politics are concerned, many viewpoints are not going to be 100% right or wrong... But...I love my old buddy Dome and his parrot. They make our world s better place. I hope they never change...

Don’t know if you guys have been following the Manafort, Cohen revelations, but one thing is clear. Trump would be indicted now if he were not president. Great to know that we could have a defacto criminal running the country.😳

I believe what I was saying is: " Is that though WE are only around 5% of the World's Population; we have 22% of the ALL The WORLD'S Jailed Population In Jail. In other words we have more citizens in our jails per capita than other Industrial Countries = NOT 22% of all Americans.
Thanks.

Good clarification, Dome. That makes more sense to me. To what then, do you attribute that? I noted a few facts about the potential difference in our country...not tolerating criminals walking free...drug laws being much more restrictive...And I'd like to add that perhaps we simply REPORT those numbers much more accurately than many countries that cloak government activity in more secrecy and hold more control over their press than the USA, making the numbers divulged to the world suspect...

Great to know that we could have a defacto criminal running the country.😳 Is it still a witch hunt if people are pleading guilty? Is it still paranoia if it's really happening? No...But I certainly won't be blind enough to think this is the first criminal president we've ever had. In fact, I think we might still be waiting for the first one that didn't have at the very least "connections"...Now, THAT is a witch hunt... (: I have an idea for 2020, and it's fool proof: JESUS FOR PRESIDENT, running as an Independent ... Now, I'll wait for Him to declare his candidacy. And then for the press to start digging...
