I didn't see what you saw in him before he came to the Yankees, other than the obvious HR power. Of course, I had heard he was average with the glove, which is far from true. Manny gets all the accolades, but the Toddfather is not far behind when it comes to pickin' it at third. Best 3B play in NY since Nettles...

With free-agent market slow, notable agent says there is a 'rising tide' among playerswww.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/22300069/agent-says-fight-brewing-slow-mlb-free-agent-marketA prominent Major League Baseball agent said Friday that a "fight is brewing" over the lack of free-agent activity in the game this offseason, and said a spring training boycott might be on the horizon if teams don't begin signing players soon. Agent Brodie Van Wagenen of Creative Artists Agency stopped short of using the word "collusion" but said the behavior of owners "feels coordinated, rightly or wrongly." "There is a rising tide among players for radical change," Van Wagenen said in a Twitter post Friday. "A fight is brewing. And it may begin with one, maybe two, and perhaps 1,200 willing to follow. A boycott of spring training may be a starting point, if behavior doesn't change. "Bottom line, the players are upset. No, they are outraged. Players in the midst of long-term contracts are as frustrated as those still seeking employment. Their voices are getting louder and they are uniting in a way not seen since 1994." Outfielder Lorenzo Cain's five-year, $80 million contract with the Milwaukee Brewers is the most lucrative deal of the offseason. Meanwhile, Yu Darvish, Jake Arrieta, J.D. Martinez, Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas, Lance Lynn and Alex Cobb are among dozens of free agents still looking for work.

I know that the last I read, Hosmer was still expecting to sign a seven year deal...He's a pretty darned good player, and that would "only" take him to age 34...but then again, how many times must the owners get burned to learn? Entitled little millionaire babies...They're not going to starve at five years, $80M...So, if you don't like what's being offered, I just left a sales job that I'll recommend you for...I you play your cards right, you might make $60K in your first year...maybe not...

I agree with you. J.D. Martinez is a decent player who had an amazing three month stretch with Arizona that he's likely never going to repeat, but teams are supposed to grossly overpay him because an agent says so. I'm with the owners on this one.

He (Todd) got 2 years from the Mets. If we could have signed him for a year, that would have been a good move. 3B-1B, wherever we needed him. Andujar is probably going to hit higher than Todd's .210-.240 (that .240 is being kind), but with less HR pop, and he's going to let a few get by him at 3B that Todd woulda' had...On the other hand, he's a great looking kid with a strong arm, so if he gets it all harnessed, we'll have us at least a decent fielder over there...We have enough options around to cover up the poop if Andujar doesn't cut it...I still wouldn't be surprised to see a veteran insurance policy picked up from somewhere...

So happy to see that P.J. Pilittere is finally getting a chance to don the pinstripes in NY. He's been a great soldier for the organization since 2004. I was always a bit sad that he didn't get at least one game behind the dish as a reward, but I guess that's not usually how baseball works...He clearly never had big-time talent, but was from all I've heard and read a great team mate and hard worker that deserves his day in the sun...

Quite amazing that anybody cares...I'm sure it's a thrill for the guy to be sought out by the media for his opinion...Wonder if he (Gary Dunaier) ever shaves that dewlap???

Because they love him, or because they hate him? Hall of Fame, or Hall of Shame? One of the most disliked players in the history of the game...often nasty to reporters and to fans, but seemingly not so with team mates and insiders. A man of two head sizes, and two very different bodies through his years in baseball. I guess there is something to be said for the theory that if you're going to do something, you should do it all out. If you want to be a baseball player, strive to be the best baseball player you can be. If you are going to cheat to be even better, then be the best cheater you can be and the records will fall. Then you leave your legacy. Then you live with it...
