I saw some things suggesting the Yanks might pursue both Kimbrel and Keuchel. I am glad they passed on Kimbrel. Not every pitcher can put their ego aside to take a role less than what they could be in. We have several on this team who have including people in the pen like Britton and Ottavino and people in the lineup like DJLM. I don’t know that Kimbrel would adjust well to setting up Chapman and if he wanted to do that he had opportunities. Beyond that, as good as his numbers look I don’t think he’s elite. The Yankees got to him several times, there’s a book on him for disciplined teams. I think the risk of him being a bad signing is not insignificant. In his first 5 seasons of MLB, Kimbrel compiled a composite 1.43 ERA. In the last 4 seasons, the ERA has been 2.47. That’s still a nice ERA, but thread is decidedly not toward improvement...

www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/charlie-morton-is-making-29-teams-look-foolish-with-predictable-dominance-for-rays/ar-AACtXcO
Charlie Morton dispatched the Tigers on Wednesday night in the same way he muted the Twins in his last start and the Indians before that.
Fastball-curveball, curveball-curveball, curveball-fastball, fastball-fastball. Keep it inside to the lefties, work down and away to the righties. A simple game plan for a veteran able to execute.
Morton needed just 83 pitches to swim through seven scoreless innings against Detroit, improving to 7-0 and dropping his ERA to 2.30. At 35, he's putting together the best season of his career in the most ho-hum way imaginable.
“This is more like pedestrian boring me going out there and just trying to do my job,” Morton told the Tampa Bay Times. “And I do mean that.’’
Despite consecutive standout campaigns for Morton in Houston and clear evidence that he had become a legitimate pitching asset, 29 MLB teams let the Rays sign him to an affordable short-term deal that included built-in injury protections. Most contenders could have easily blown his two-year, $15 million offer with a vesting option for a third year out of the water, and even cash-strapped organizations could have made a competitive bid. It’s unclear why no one bit. READ MORE...

LOL, Mets.
Mets manager Mickey Callaway reaches new low, asks Mike Francesa if star player should participate in Home Run Derby
Year two for Mickey Callaway as manager of the New York Mets has gone just about as you'd expect. His two stud pitchers have grossly underperformed, the high-profile players acquired by new GM Brodie Van Wagenen have flat-out stunk and Yoenis Cespedes, who the franchise signed to a four-year, $110,000,000 million contract in 2017 only for him to promptly suffer injuries to both his heels that required surgery, re-injured himself while screwing around on his own ranch rather than rehabbing last month. So yeah, it's been a typical Mets-ian few months for Mickey.
On top of all that, Callaway has fudged up some major decisions on the field and often times made himself look foolish with the media. It's not that he has a bad relationship with them, it's that he's optimistic to a fault. When the team stinks, New York fans expect their managers and coaches to say they stink, to give them a kick in the rear end, etc. Callaway does not live by this philosophy, something Mets fans are beginning to no longer tolerate.
On Wednesday afternoon Callaway may have reached a new low with the fanbase during his weekly interview with Mike Francesa, aka New Yawk's Numbah One aka the guy who should have stayed in retirement (exhibit A, B and C here). Callaway, who was the one being interviewed, flipped that sh-t on Mike and asked him for his opinion on Mets rising star Pete Alonso participating in the Home Run Derby.
Being the egomaniac he is, Francesa was not taken aback, rather answering the question honestly and rambling on as only he can, which Callaway followed up by agreeing with him. Much like Mets fans who watched that, I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

Are the Mets just too cheap to pull the plug on Callaway? Seems like the new GM has been even worse.

It’s been rumored that the Mets are considering letting him go. I’ve been on the position before of wanting to be patient before making a move. As a manager your ego can be involved too, because you don’t want to believe that after the interview process you’ve allowed yourself to hire the wrong person. The truth is that some people interview much better than others, and they are not always the ones that do the best job. You have to sort that out by reading between the lines...

This is based on a hilarious concept that a family can travel what would usually amount to hundreds or even thousands of miles to save money watching a baseball game while ignoring whether or not they even care one lick about the teams they would be watching.
Oh, I know there are exceptions since some East Coast baseball cities are only 50 miles or less apart. If the article were written about those few examples it would be more sensible. Not everyone is T. Marino who claimed to travel to Baltimore to watch the Yankees play to save a few bucks...Like Marino, most people who spend on the travel are ignoring the additional travel costs and looking onlynat the costs accrued at the stadiums.
No. I didn’t actually waste my time reading this article because the concept is so silly to me...

With 19Ks. He’ll never make it to the Yankees turn in the draft but that’s a kid you back up the brinks truck for.
