Chase Headley, despite not a ton to show for it, has made a ton of hard contact against RHP in the past couple of games. Sanchez has also performed well defensively throughout the entire playoffs.
This passed balls narrative is one of the most overblown things I have ever seen. These guys receive between 15000-20000 pitches throughout the year, there is no material statistical difference between letting 5 or 10 or 15 sneak by you.

This may have something to do with Romine being behind the plate.
Mark Feinsand tweeted: In three starts with Romine, Gray had a 1.45 ERA and .543 OPS against. In eight starts with Sanchez, he had a 4.63 ERA and .767 OPS against.

I don’t love it either. Maybe the thinking is that without catching to worry about a switch will flip and Gary will have better ABs but I don’t know that it works like that. I also felt like Headley had some good ABs that just ended in outs and he’s definitely a better hitter than Romine. If Romine goes 4-4 and Sonny throws a shutout I will gladly be wrong.

Sonny Gray doesn't have the best fastball (I've heard) but he has some great other pitches. And, as CC showed us, that is what it takes (along with excellent control.) That team is a fastball hitting team, so we have an excellent shot in this series. And our pitching has shown us that thus far.

Romine behind the dish, Sanchez at DH. Dont love this move. Why oh why Girardi??? Unless Sanchez is hurt I can't understand this move at all. It shortens our lineup in the biggest game of the year! There are no personal catchers in the playoffs! Why would you this?!? [img class="smile" alt=" " src="//storage.proboards.com/6828121/images/ZVUxStWfuuhWOBrKaeKL.gif"]

Well, Romine is not exactly a disaster. I'm fine with the move. Romine will get three hits tonight, I called it...I can see the benefit of getting Gary out from behind the dish for a night...I know...big game and all that, but they won games with Romine behind the plate during the season...In fact they were 35-27 (.565) in games Romine started, which is a 91.5 win pace...
I don't feel as though Romine is as good overall defensively compared to Sanchez, and I don't over-value those few extra passed balls. I just know that catching is hard, and that a day off for the starter is not a bad idea from time to time. If we're going to win this thing, the day off may pay big benefits before the World Series is over...
The only thing I really don't like about Romine is that he swings at almost every first pitch...and damn near all of the second third and fourth pitches when he gets to see that many...
Play ball! I'm all in.
