That catchers inferference was sort of indefensible and I didn’t like putting Romine in the lineup but he did a nice job behind the plate.
Gray pitched with confidence burying pitches in the dirt and threw a solid 5 innings before that weirdness in the 6th. Have to give Romine credit for that.
Now score some runs.

You can’t really blame Romine, but putting in a defensive downgrade who is also an automatic out into the lineup is indefensible on Joe’s part, regardless of how Romine performs. |

The lazy effort Romine made on the pitch in the dirt in the 4th inning that allowed an Astro base runner to get in scoring position was impressive. Credit Gray for pitching around it. Maybe Girardi should now play Toe at 2nd for Castro? |

I thought Headley had good ABs the last couple of days and would prefer having him in the lineup. But I also am not going to shit on Romine who blocked a lot of tough pitches that Sanchez might or might not have. The issue tonight is that they haven’t done anything against a mediocre pitcher on the other side. If Lance McCullers beats them then they lose. Wouldn’t matter who catches or DH’s if they can’t hit Lance McCullers. |
