Ugh, the 20 second pitch clock was one of my favorite rule change. Looks like it was just a pawn in a bigger game of owners vs player's union. Can't wait to see more batters stepping out of the box and pitchers off the mound rubber. No word on the universal DH either. I want that to go into effect as soon as possible. It blows my mind that these National Leaguers still want their pitchers hitting, I don't get it.

Yea, I totally agree. Plus instituting the DH in the NL will lead to more offense and more jobs for players. The only thing I like about the pitcher hitting is that they have to be careful towards hitting a batter or they will get plunked themselves.

This is an AL board so we like the DH. Lots of NL fans apparently like the strategy involved in making pitchers bat.

Given that a work stoppage is very likely after the contract expires it makes sense to postpone a rule not beloved of many players. Why make a strike more likely by annoying people?

It is based on my love of the sport and interest in avoiding a work stoppage. The MLBPA prefers universal DH and this is an easy concession for the league to give the players.

There should be a clock limit for commercials. That’ll speed up the game.

I say we switch to “Australian Rules”. No little pansy getting set in the box, and the pitcher can throw the ball to the plate area from wherever he chooses. If you hit the batter in the head it counts as a strike. Baserunners can be tackled by any fielder at any time, and the base runners are allowed to carry and use machetes.
There WILL be action!!!

When I lived there I loved going to the Games. My Favorite Team was the Collingwood Magpies.
It is a very fast game...no timeouts; no huddles, etc.
Every time I visited since; I always attend a game...

The way games should be played...
If I had my way the rules of squash would allow for squashing...And even badminton would be bad. Really, really bad...So bad there would be an expression used for it daily, as in “Poor Paul. He got mintoned really bad yesterday. The services are tomorrow”...
Baseball players would still honing their spikes and doctoring the ball with slippery stuff to throw to batters that have hollowed out their bats and filled them with bbs to hit balls to outfielders that have extra baseballs hidden in the tall grass of the outfield...

MLB tweaks some rules now, more coming in '20
A single trade deadline, an All-Star Game election day and a million-dollar bonus for the Home Run Derby winner will be implemented in 2019 -- and a three-batter minimum for pitchers and roster expansion will happen in 2020 -- as part of a deal between Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association.
Three batter minimum? That really changes the game. I don't think it's a good idea.

Agreed, kay. I dont really like that. They should have to show that imposing that rule meaningfully improves pace of play (to such a degree that people care/it is noticeable). I cant imagine any other reason to make the change other than to try to improve pace but this is a substantial change to gameplay and in-game strategy so it should be proven that it will indeed yield results.

If they wanted to improve the pace of the games, they should have kept the pitch clock that they've been using in the spring training games. The clock and the limit on catcher's visits to the mound were both great ideas that have speed up the game.

I like ALL the Changes; however, MLB needs plenty more changes. The Average Length of the Game (Time Wise) has to eventually be brought down to TWO-Hours or less.
If not, the our youth generations of today/tomorrow will determine MLB's Fate in the Future.
