I still see this thread hanging around and I still feel like there’s More to say, only I’ve run out of words. I think what’s getting to me is that “I hated you then, but I love you now. Maybe Ivwish he’d have been traded to the Yankees in that winter of ‘65. The Yankees would have still had their challenges, no doubt. They probably also didn’t have the players to get Frank, nor the foresight to see that they needed him, but he was so driven to show the talent that was left in his “old thirty” year old body that he would have had to have made us better..,
There, I guess I found a few more words...
One final note: The Yankees were late to embrace black players. Perhaps, had they known Frank was on the market (and they probably did), would they have wanted a black star to compete with Mantle and Maris?...Sadly, this is worth consideration...
