First Holder and now Tarpley. Boone overextends both these relievers and they both end up on the IL, what a shocker. I don’t buy the Tarpley injury to be honest. Any pitcher can have evidence of elbow inflammation. He threw 50 pitches pretty effortlessly. His command was poor but it usually is. Seems like this could be a wink and a nod move to just open a roster spot to be honest.

If I understand the rule correctly Stanton is now lost for the season. Which has some up sides in honesty. But it is weird to come back for a week then be gone for the season.

No, they still expect Stanton back in September. They would need to make room for him on the 40 man roster when he's ready to play, the same with Severino and Betances.

This is the rule I was referring to. Is this incorrect? "The player may not rejoin the active roster until the minimum 10 or 60 days has elapsed; however, a player's time on the injured list may exceed the specified number of days, and, further, if a player is transferred to the 60-day injured list after August 1, he may not return to the active roster that season." Obviously it is after August 1. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Injured_list

I would be shocked if the Yankees front office made a mistake like that.

Interesting they decided to go back to the 15 day IL next year from 10 That's to stop the manipulation of the 10-day IL to move pitchers around. By returning to the 15 day standard, teams will be reluctant to give a starting pitcher a quick rest by missing just one start as happens now.

Yeah Assuming Wikipedia is not wrong on the 60 day rules (and I would guess they are wrong) perhaps the fact that Stanton was already on the IL makes the difference "Stanton’s transfer to the 60-day IL is more of a formality than an indicator of any new health problems. He was already known to be out until September, and because his initial 10-day IL placement occurred June 26, he’ll be eligible to return August 26. Amazing they still don't know if Voit will have to have surgery or not. Why is that amazing? It’s the human body. Not everything is abundantly clear when illness or injury occurs. With that attitude toward the medical community, if I were your doctor I’d buy a special policy from Lloyd’s of London in anticipation of your eventual lawsuit...

If he has surgery now, he's done for the year. If he doesn't he might recover without surgery sufficiently to play this season and he might not. It isn't that hard to figure out they have some +EV if they wait and none if they don't.

Its a physical injury not a virus or cancer, or other exotic unknown condition. What are they going discover going forward they don't know now.
