I think it is important for the Yankees to stay on their current track. They need to get under the luxury tax threshold next season. I don't care if the Yankees take a step back next season, they need to keep building towards the future. The Yankees have the chance to be a World Series threat for the next 7-8 seasons, and I don't want them to trade that in to try and win one next season.
The Yankees need upgrades at 3B, 2B, CF and DH. The Yankees should not re-sign Todd Frazier. I like him, he's a solid player, but he's not going to be a piece that helps the Yankees really become a year in and year out great team. Headley is on the last season of his contract. The Yankees have two young very good infielders, Anudjar and Torres, one of them needs to be up at some point next season playing 3B and pushing Headley out. The Yankees should not re-sign Headley when his contract expires.
The next time Castro inevitably gets hurt, either Andujar or Torres should be called up to play 2B. Tyler Wade and Ronald Torreyes are not long-term solutions at 2B. The Yankees need to begin phasing out Headley and Castro, and bringing along Andujar and Torres to see exactly what they have there between the two. You already know what you have with the others, and you know it's not enough to win a World Series with.
Florial is absolutely raking in the Fall League the last time I checked. I love Brett Gardner but unfortunately next season is the last on his contract as well, and I wouldn't re-sign him either, or if I did, it would be to smaller contract as he is a great veteran presence. Next season Clint Frazier should see extended run in the line-up. The Yankees need to desperately get out from under the Ellsbury contract. The Yankees have 3-4 outfielders better than him, and his contract is gross.
My point is, I don't want the Yankees to try and 'cash in' next season and make a run at the World Series if it hurts the Yankees down the line. Stay the course with the current plan. Continue to phase out certain players to make room for these younger guys that are banging the door down in the minor leagues. Don't overpay for free agents like Machado or some of those Kansas City guys becoming FA. There are two FA's worth paying for coming up, Otani and Harper. I would really try to promote from within everywhere else.
If the Yankees try to 'cash in' next year it will just weaken them down the line, which IMO is not worth it.

No more game threads this season...
Hope this gang can stay together this coming winter and talk baseball and joke around...
I can't say I didn't think the team had a chance to make the playoffs this season, because I did think they had a chance, but I'm quite satisfied to have made it to game seven of League Championship Series. The Astros are a darned good team, and they deserved to win. They have on attribute I'd like to see the Yankees gain, and that is the ability for more of their guys to put the ball in play. It's okay to have a few sluggers that K a lot in today's game, but I do believe that there's still a place for hitting the ball and moving runners along...
I do think if we started over today and had to play the Astros for another series that we'd have just as good a chance of winning as we would losing. Two good teams met, only one could win...

No doubt, the Astros are a great team. That lineup plus Koo-chel and Verlander? And we almost beat them too! Nuts!

I just don’t think there are Dynasty’s in baseball anymore. Too much competition with the second wild card makes all these crazy trades we saw this year possible. Teams seem to have 3 years or so runs at best and don’t win the World Series all 3 of them. Teams are catching up to each other way faster than they used to. The royals were on top of the world in 14 and 15 and now barely can contend for the second wc. Cubs after looking like the best team in baseball in 15 and 16 took a step back this year. Red Sox are good one year suck the next. You can keep going down the list but there hasn’t been a back to back World Series champion in the 21st century.

In retrospect, how good would the Yanks look if they had added Verlander instead of Gray? They would have beaten Houston and having He and Louie at the TOR for the following 2 years might have led to a 3peat.

Great season. Renewed my faith in baseball and the Yankees. The future looks bright and these kids gave us a great season. No complaints from me.

It sucks to lose.
That being said, this season so exceeded my wildest expectations that I have absolutely no complaints. This team should have been in Year 2 of the rebuild, and took one of the most stacked teams in baseball to Game 7,with a trip to the World Series on the line.
Going into the off-season, I'd love to see the Yankees offload as much of Jacoby Ellsbury's contract as possible, even if it means a subpar return. It's not that he's terrible; but the benefit to the luxury tax hit and the absolute logjam we have in the OF positions means that his subtraction could mean long-term gains in terms of the overall organisation. I'd also like to see them move on from Headley and the Toddfather, even though Frazier seems to be a solid locker room/dugout presence. I'll always be appreciative of their efforts this postseason though; I won't complain about them a bit.
Pitchers always scare me; you never know when the current "sure thing" will blow out his pinky and become useful as a backup pitcher in a slow-pitch softball league. If CC came back on a club-friendly 1 year deal, great. But, he will get much better offers than that, and he should. The only reason he stays is if he just loves being a Yankee. Tanaka should opt out, he's liable to get a boatload of cash. He should. He's obviously an ace, but man, that elbow... When is it going to blow. I don't want them to pursue trades for Betances;his stuff seems to be still there, but something is off in his execution. Hopefully an off-season can fix that.
I'd like to see them get Otani (do the Yankees have any special advantages in that regard?) and Darvish. Darvish is fragile, but he's pretty amazing IMO, and worth the big hit.

Great season. Renewed my faith in baseball and the Yankees. The future looks bright and these kids gave us a great season. No complaints from me. It was a great year, they make the playoffs and play the two best teams in the AL, beating one and taking the other to seven games. They just came up a little short but I think they can better going foward and it will be fun to watch.

Came on to post that this season, even though we didn't make the World Series, has been a success and has been fucking amazing as a fan. One thing the MLB has to work on this off season is umpiring. The home plate umps for this series were horrible... and not just to the Yankees, to Houston as well. Especially last night, guy couldn't call balls/strikes to save his family's life...
So what now? Does Retardi sign or go home? Tanaka opt out? Otani come over?

They would have beaten Houston and having He and Louie at the TOR for the following 2 years might have led to a 3peat. They honestly could have beaten Houston with the current players they have right now. They ran into three major outs on bases that effected games dramatically. If they are safe on all 3 of those their chances of winning this series goes up dramatically. As far as the umpiring I am not sure how to solve the problem, because like I said in the other post the strike zone is really the umpires opinion, but to have that hicks call change the whole game was really annoying.

Don’t mean it to sound as a criticism of the team or of Cash. Think he’s done a terrific job. Again, most enjoyable year of following spirts for me. I’m going to be interested to see how Ver and Keu do against the Dodgers.

So many yankee haters out there. One of them was like to me are you going to watch the world series? My response was "No my team isn't playing it". They then asked me pretty annoyingly What kind of baseball fan are you? My response "A Yankee Fan."
I dunno I know some people could do it, but I just feel no attachment to any other team its like in my blood or something.

Dodgers win, Astros win. I don't really care...Probably won't watch an inning...

I won't watch a second of the World Series unless it goes to Game 6. Then I'll keep my eye on the score, and if it gets to around the 7th inning and it is a close game I'll tune in. I'll watch a Game 7 in its entirety.
