I don't think the Yankees need to make a big splash at DH. We are trying to get under the luxury tax threshold and rightfully so, and Bruce won't help us get there. I think the Yankees should sign a better back-up catcher than Romine, and play Sanchez behind the plate 90-100 times while putting him at DH around 40 times. This way he can stay fresh and healthy, and let's just be honest, he still has a lot of work to do behind the plate so I don't think anyone would be bothered by signing a solid back-up catcher which would allow Sanchez to slide into DH more often.
I think we have so many bats, that we would find a way to fill out the rest of the DH spot between guys like Frazier (Clint), Judge, and Headley. Also, we could possibly see Otani getting DH spots if the Yankees sign him.
It should also be kept in mind that we will likely see Andujar and Torres BOTH up in the big leagues next season, thus creating more DH opportunities for people.

I never liked the DH by committee thing. I always liked it better just assigning a DH. That was one thing that was lacking this postseason. They didnt really have that Veteran that could come off the bench and pinch hit for that clutch home run. Headley really did come alive in the Astros series, but I think hes fine at 3B. I dunno I think they take a chance on a Matt Holiday type and see if it catches fire if not they go to the committee thing. Would someone like Granderson be worth it on the cheap for a year contract? He still had 26 HR this year though hes clearly regressed. I don't think someone like Bruce or Martinez would want to be regulated to just DH duty.

What I've read on this guy is he can pitch and hit, however, does that even work? He can't be two positions in the lineup at once correct?

Anyone have a clue if Otani could hit major league pitching? If Tanaka opts out, I could see the Yanks going after him as a replacement.

How did they divvy up his playing time in Japan? Not sure what their strategy was but in 2016 he hit in 104 games and started 20 games in the regular season...in 2017 he had some injury trouble. They play 143 games in Japan.

I see GS DHing 30-40 games and catching 100-110. Four or even 5 “regular OFers” fill out the other 120 games. No need to pay for a DH,IMO. I’d rather have a third catcher

Hopefully at least two of the catchers hit well enough to DH, and at least one is multi-position capable... Would be nice if we can get a few games of DH time for Bird. He's proving to be a pretty good fielding 1B in my opinion, but let's keep him fresh and healthy...No more Headley at DH, please. He got hot this year, but he's not a good long-term solution. The DH should never be an option to bat 8th or 9th in an ideal world. He should be a threat at the plate...He should be someone who the pitchers have to be concerned will create mayhem, whether it's one player or a combination. We have some great options with Higgy, Bird, Sanchez, Judge, even an occasional Didi, Hicks (if he continues with his improvement), or Gardner. If the Headleys', Ellsburys' and Castros' of the world can't hold a position in the field, or need a day off, then they should just have a day off...

The Yankees will need the DH for their outfield rotation and to rest Gary Sanchez while keeping his bat in the lineup. With Gardner and Ellsbury on the roster, they require days off at this point in their careers. Due to consistent rest, Gardner didn't die offensively in the second half like in previous years from wearing down. Clint Frazier and Hicks have to get at bats somewhere. And, let's face it, there is no Edgar Martinez or David Ortiz to be had.
