At least you get to see the good lineup with the players we have right now Chi, no surprise substitutions. Also, you might get to see CC's 250th win! Not bad! The DJLM at first base is still a tiny bit funky, but the way DJ plays the game, I’d be happy to see him anywhere on the diamond. Anywhere!

Why is Giolito suddenly so good? According to what I’ve found on reading various web sites, he has decided to follow the league trend of checking his analytics and utilizing them to improve. His 4 seam fast ball and his sinker have combined to be used a bit over 60% of the time in the past. The four seamer was getting hit into the stands too often, and while the sinker was predictably difficult to elevate, it was still being hit hard enough for batters to hit over .330 on it last season. He’s completely abandoned the sinker and reduced the usage of the four-seamer. His out pitches are now a slider that moves dramatically away from RHH and a changeup that moves away from LHH. If the Yanks are sitting red tonight, he just might own them the same way he’s been owning everyone else this league. They’d do well to look for the pitches he’s now accentuating and make sure they’re strikes. He’s also throwing his fastball more as a “show me” pitch, not getting as much of the plate with them as in the past. If he throws the stuff at us that has been working (above) and has top command/control, he may be untouchable, so the best course of action may be look off speed and breaking ball... and lay off a few in the early going...Make him get them over the plate, be ready to hit to the opposite field when you do swing. It sounds so easy, it makes me want to grab a bat. The 🦇 bit me!!! You should take over Marcus Thames' job and relay your scouting reports to the hitters!

Like I said the 🦇 bit me... so what do I know?
I’d probably give a dumb pregame talk and say “remember men, there’s always room for Lucas...er ah, I mean... Giolito”!...

I don’t see how you interpreted anything I said in that or any other post I’ve ever made to convey such a message, Russ. I suppose if that’s how you read it, there’s not much I can do to change your mindset...

You said that he improved because he read analysis (which I assume was likely based on statistics). Much as the shift and moneyball is. I think that is making the game a lot worse, probably should have made it clear I think statisticians are messing it up not you.
Boston beating up on Baltimore, Tampa losing to the Angels.

There goes Giolito's scoreless streak with one mighty Voit swing.

Well, statistics and statisticians are messing up a lot of corporations. I don’t think they’re messing up baseball, or shouldn’t be, since all teams have access, and no matter what you know as a player, you still have to execute a game plan with physical tools...
