I think Cashman was expecting more when he traded for Paxton, he's been more like an end of the rotation starter. I agree. At times he can look brilliant, but he's wildly inconsistent. I was just going to post this. Paxton is supposed to be a solid #2, but hes pitching like a 4th or 5th starter that gives you innings, but quite a few runs to go with it. Which doesn't help much if you are always playing catchup.

While I had hoped for more, I realized his career record featured ups and downs and that he carried the burden of injury. Great pickup, as long as the risk was considered, and I believe it was...And we still may see the better version of him before the season is over. If he wants to show that side late in the season and the post season, I’ll take that!...

CC you never know what you are going to get. Tanaka has been really good mostly, but even he hasn't been that shutdown #1 that is dominant most of the time (has 5 starts of 4+ runs). Then the 5th starter is basically opener/AAA guy/who knows. They really need Paxton to be more consistent, Happ as well, but I dunno if Happ being a fly ball pitcher can ever be consistent.

Do you bump Happ if he hasn't figured it out by then and German is back to the beginning of the year mode?

If/when Severino comes back and German looks good, I wouldn't be afraid to dump Happ if he's still struggling.
